Next month in Washington a
great-grandson of Daniel Webster
is to marry a great grand daughter
of Benjamin Franklin. This will
be a grand affair.
The Macon Telegraph writes that
Senator Brmvn voted for tho .hill
appropriating $ 100,000 for a monu
jnent to the negro troops who serv¬
ed in the federal army. Senator
Colquitt voted against it.
Speaking of our congressman,
Hon. John D. Stewart, the At¬
lanta Georgia Cracker says : ‘Tic is
a noted lawyer and industrious stu¬
dent,, and one of the best known
men in Georgia, lie has been
twice elected to the legislature,
twice to tin* bench of the Superior
Court of tho Flint circuit. Three
times elected judge of the court of
ordinary of Spalding county, and
twice mayor of Griffin, at which
place he at present resides, lie is
a “dyed in the wool” democrat and
a h opporter of Mr. Cleveland and
Mr. Carlisle in their tariff “reform
policy.’
Rockdale county is little in point
of area, but her polities is loud and
lone, judging from the tenacity
with which the two factions adhere
to the different views of things and
persons. This county does not be¬
long to any one man, nor is any
one man able to carry tho county
in any election without an almost
superhuman effort. We are as a
people all great but all equals. In
proof this let us ask a question.
What representative has haul a
walk over, as it is called? Dr.
Stewart has represented us by the
skin of the teeth. Senator Beck
got there by a scratch. Hammond
carried the county by a majority
too small to mention. Colquitt
beat Gartrcll m the county by a
majority of one. Such being the
undeniable record in tho county,
who then will dare say one man is
by position or influence superior to
all others, and can by a wink or
nod compel the people to truckle
in sm vile obedience to his willing
dictates? Is it not better to enter¬
tain the smoother idea that we are
all great but equals? The idea that
one man or even two , men carry
Rockdale in their pockets is the
merest , , bosh. , >- Now to . ,, tho •

house, and it becomes the duty
