For Congressman, JOHN D. STEWART. of Griffin. For Governor, JOHN B. GORDON. Executive Committee’s Action. At a meeting of the democratic executive committee yesterday a call was made for a mass meeting of the democratic party of Rock¬ dale county on the 30th of June at 2 o’clock p. m. at the court house to select two delegates and two al¬ ternates to attend the congressional convention to be held in Atlanta on the 11th of July, and the same number of delegates and alternates to the senatorial convention of this district. And also called a primary elec¬ tion of the democratic party of said county on Saturday July 21st at the several precints of the coun¬ ty to select a candidate for the low¬ er house of the next general assem¬ bly, said election to be governed by the rules heretofore adopted by the executive committee, which will appear hereafter, J. N. Gi.e.vn, Ch. Ex. Com. Conyers, Ga., June 14th 1888. John Scott Harrison, father of Benjamin Harrison, voted for Til den. He quit the republican party in 1874 and died a democrat. His son is still impenitent. An autopsy on the body of Nel¬ son Lee. who was killed in Charles¬ ton. W. Va., a few days ago, showed that his heart was situated on the right side of his breast. There is nothing strange in this. Some men are altogether heartless. The United States circuit court at Little Rock, Ark,, decided on Saturday that 1 lrd cider Was an intoxicant, and its sale illegal in the prohibition counties of that state. Such a decision in New England would almost stir up a rebellion. Instead of the Band playing "Nearer My God To Thee,” on opening a session at the Republican Convention, it would have been far more appropriate to have treated the audience to ‘‘Jordan ia a hard road to ti able, I believe.” A person selling intoxicants in Telfair county is required to pay a license of $5,000to sell in any quan¬ tity, not only by retail but by the gallon or barrel. In addition to this he must obtain tne consent of a majority of the freeholders living within three miles of such place as the seller desires to sell. He must also give bond, as the law requires for retailers. With Henry George, Dr. Mc Glynn and Mr. Powderly, the great leaders of the labor organizations, all denouncing the republican plat¬ form for its favor to protected mo¬ nopolies, its declaration in favor free whisky rather than cheaper clothing and other necessariss life, etc., is there any good reason to doubt that the bulk of the labor vote will be given to the democratic ticket 9 Bucklen’s Arnica Salve, The best salve in the world for cuts bruises, sores, ulcers, Salt Rheum Fever sores, Tetter, chap ped hands.
