hearts. The collection will now be
taken up.”

There is an epidemic of typhoid
fever in and around Logansville.
G'ol. Loclclin J. Winn, of Decatur,
is improving rapidly, both physical¬

The pickpockets got in their work
admirably during the State fair.
Some being robbed while holding
their children to see the sights while
others were robbed in the act of get¬
ting on the cars, and in various at¬
titude people were robbed.
An election was held Saturday in
file town district of Newton county
on “the fence” question and resulted
in the adoption of the stock law by
a majority of 129. Seven of the
eleven militia (li triots in the county
have now adopted the stock law and
it is believed that the others will
soon fallow their example.
The prohibition election comes off
in Atlanta on November 25th. Uni
v or sal excitement prevails, and the
chances are about even as to the re¬
sult. The negro vote is divided.
Secretary Bayard’s deafness is
said to be increasing and to trouble
him sei iously.
Monday Governor McDaniel ap
pointel Howard Van Epps judge of
the city court of Atlanta, and issued
the requisite commission in connec¬
tion with the appointment. The ap¬
pointment is to fill the vacancy caus¬
ed by the resignation of Judge Mar¬
shall J. Clark. Judge Van Epps
will go on the bench December 1st,
his term commencing upon that day.
The. project to incinerate dead bod
ies, now under way in Buffalo, is
meeting with strong opposition from
the churches. Bi hop Coxe made a
strong sermon against it on Sunday
night, urging that cremation was
opposed to Christian civilization.
The marshal ofLaGrange states

ten years, and testifies that crime is
