The Friday superstition does not get much encouragement from cer tain incidents in the political careers of President Cleveland and Governor II ill. He will be inaugurated Governor on Friday, Jam 1 1885. He has therefore chosen Friday evening, December 11th, as the most ap nropiate time for the reception ten dered him by the Manhattan Club, Lest some of our readers think that Friday is sure to polities, bring good instead of bad luck in we may ap propititely recall the facftl.it MA Blaine was also nominated on Fri dtiy, in 1884.” There are -‘walking warnings” in every large city. These -‘walking warnings” are men who once lived in line mansions, drove handsome horses and controlled their hundreds of thousands of dollars. They arc now without a dime and depend up¬ on borrowing from their old friends. They will never get on their feet again. They have lost their “grip,” as it were. One by one they are lost to sight and forgotten. Their ranks are kept full, however, by new recru its. They cannot make money in tin ways that money is made slowly. Those w ho choose the slippery paths of speculation know the danger they will have to encounter. No one of them however, thinks that danger will overtake them. . Claude Estes, Grand Chancellor of the K of P., of Gainesville, and an old newspaper man, was married to Miss Nannie Jones, of Macon, Thursday morning. It is now said that Mahone is gathering up his scattered fragments tortile purpose of going to Dakota. There is some comfort in this, but Dakota is very near the United Stales. Three large illicit distilleries were raided in Cherokee county, near Moore’s mill, on Shoal creek, Friday night. The three contained 7,000 gallons of beer, besides a large quan 1 t-v of eon, whiskey and brandy. The liquid will be used in irrigating the sand. Never was a sincere word utterly lost, never a magnanimity fell to the ground; there is some heart al ways to greet and accept unexpect¬ edly. As the people of the PoiYth have at last learned that the practice of planting ail cotton means certain failure, they are be¬ ginning to turn their attention to diver¬ sified farming, rruit culture, stock rais¬ ing, etc. There is yet a field with very few la¬ borers. from which large profits are to result—the culture of the Pecan Lt it i< strange, indeed, that in a climate so well adapted as ours to the raising of this most profitable Nut, there should be so few persons engaged in its culture. Perhaps every one who has given this subject sufficient attention to obtain a fair test, is now an enthusiastic advocate of pecan culture < n a broad scale. The tree is of the same genus as the hickory, Its which it very much resembles. natural range is in the valleys of the western flourishes rivers, from Illinois to Texas; and it with remarkable suc¬ cess in almost every pare of the United States. I can furnish trees of the best Texas varieties, two years old, root pruned Si one year, at very low prices. Every per son who wants to plant one or more thousand, should get my terms at once. S. W.
