Editing a paper is a pleasant busi nos—if you like it. If it contains much political mat¬ ter people won’t have it. If the type is large it don’t con¬ tain much reading matter. If we publish telegraph reports folks say they are nothing but lies. If we ornit them, we have no en terprise, or suppress them for politi¬ cal effect. If we have a few jokes folks say we are nothing but rattle heads. If we omit jokes folks say we are nothing but fossils. If we publish original matter they damn us for not giving selections. If we give selections people say we are lazy for not writing more and giving them what they have not read in some other paper. If we give a complimentary no tiee we are censured for being par¬ tial. If we don’t, all hands say we are a great hog. article which pleases If we insert an the ladies, the men become jeal otts and vice versa. If we attend church they say it is for effect. If we remain in our office, attend ing to our business, folks say we are too proud to mingle with other fel¬ lows, I f we go out they say we don’t at¬ tend to our business. Hon. A. O. Bacon was at Canton court last week. lie says he has thrown himself into, the gubernato¬ rial canvas this time to win or know the reason why, or words to that cf feet.—Marietta Journal. He will be very sure to find the “reason why.” Thc Prohibitionists of Walton county are getting up a petition for an election, There is not a retail bar in the county, and it is thought there will be no serums opposition. Prof, White says his position to ward the negro on the peasantry question is misunderstood. He did not ad v ocatu running these people from the country, for there is land enough for all to work. Let the ne¬ gro remain and take his chances. Six hundred tornadoes arc re¬ ported to have occurred iu this country in less than one hundred years. Daniel Webster once said: “My son, deal with the man who adrer tises; there’s miilions in it.” If the discharge7 from the bladder is light colored, and demands fie quout attention, especially at night you have reason to sus|K?ct an un healthy condition of tlie Kidneys, use Dr. J. Jan 80 3 in* Among the curiosities at the Or dinacy’B office, at Macon, is the lot lowing document, which was given as a bona fide security of the willing ness of the mother of a youthful bride to her daughter entering the matrimonial state: “Macon, Ocktober 6 .—Deer Mis ter Foard. I have no interjections to yore marrying her cf you will treat her as a wife she is verry vong and lieant never fooled with no man you haf to lain her and look over her. Youfs verry respeckful Msu. If you blow to hard and some of tlie Powder goes down your throat, will do no harm. For sale by Drs. Lee aud Stewart. 3 iu. Rev. Sam Jones told the people of Chk-ago the other day that “a man literally takes his life in his hands when ho goes out to talk prohibition down there” (referring misrepresentations to Georgia. It is by such as this, says the Rome Courier, that sectional prejudices are kept up and embittered, ’The fact that prohibi¬ tion lias been carried in over half the counties of Georgia without vio lence or danger to prohibition advo cates is a sufficient refutation of his charge. The Sparta Ishmaellte is celebra¬ ting its seventh anniversary. It has taken, rank as one of the be&t'papeys in the state. Estes, of Gainesville, has at last obtained his consent to contest the seat in Congress now oc¬ cupied by Hon. Alien G. Candler. He lias publicly announced this fact. The next and most important ques¬ tion for Mr. Estes to decide is can lie get tin- people’s consent to the change. We shall sec. J)r. Mel!, of the State university at Athens, organized the class in par¬ liamentary law Thursday. The prac¬ tical science of parlimcutary law was taught in the University of Geor gia before it was in any other college in America, and some of her gradu utes have been very fine parliamen¬ tarians. Henry Ebert, No. 1314 N. 16th street, St. Louis, Mo., says: I called to tell you that t|ie bottle of Tar Wine Lung Balm which I bought of you is the best remedy in the world for croup. My little girl four years old, had a very bad attack, and we despaired of her life, but two doses of Tar Wine Lung Balm made her all right. I would not take $100 lor the good it done her. Sherman says in a recent letter i hat he pays $200 school tax in St. Louis. The New York Sun investigates and finds that lie pays $125. But better men than Sherman lie about their taxes. The South Carolina negroes make a serious mistake in leaving home for Western States just now. The indications are that the time is near at hand when tlie President’s fences are to be repaired with Southern blackjack. The state of Missouri iseonvulsed with excitement over a recent out rage at Georgetown. It seems that Mrs. Hubbard charges one of her boarders, a school teacher named Castle, with stealing kisses from her. In court Mrs. llubtmrd stated that Air. Castle tickled her under the chin and kissed her five times.; The success of the wretch in securing so many kisses puzzled the court, un¬ til the tickling under the cliiir was taken in consideration. In the opin ion of experts this explained the whole matter. It is believed that the legislature will make tickling under the chin a penal offense. Against slander there is no de fence. Hell cannot boast of so foul fiend, nor man deplore so foul a foe. It stabs with a smile; ii is a pestii enee walking in darkness, spreading contagion far and wide, which the most wary ti avoler cannot avoid. It is the hoar-searching dagger of the assassin. It is the poisoned arrow whose wound is incurable. It is as fatal as the sting of tlie most deadly asp. Murder is its employment; in¬ nocence its prey: and ruin its sport. If you will take one of those little Billets every evening before going to bed, you will have an evacuation of the bowels every twenty four hours, killing off and. removing those terri ble human pests, Bacterial Animal¬ cule, created by unhealthy mucus in the organs and bowels. They live on the nnieas which should aid nature. Dr. J. H. McLean’s Ilomqs opathic Liver and Kidney Billets will eradicate then and assist Dr. J. H. McLean’s Liver and Kidney Balm in giving health and strength to the suffer. For sale by Drs, Lee and Stewart. 3m. It Is now certain that Mr. Blaine in his book has not done justice to his quondam friend and admirer Col. Bob Ingersoll. Can it be that the plumed knight is an ingrate? The street ear drivers and conduc¬ tors of New York have w on in their strike. They asked for two dollars a day for 12 hours' work and they gained their point. Fencing mav be a manly art, but not bile farmer’s son in a dozen takes to it kindly. Dr. George B. The statement by Senator Call that his colleague, Senator Jones, is crazy, should have the effect of turn¬ ing the badinage which the press has been indulging at tlie latter’s ex pense into regret.
