The work has been going on for over u two years, and it is still prose¬ cuted with some measure of success, although it may be doubted if the influx of negroes will be able to overcome the preponderating white element. There are even now more set¬ tlers in Oklahoma of the latter race than is generally known. A recent examination of the statistics ofjpopulation shows that of the 800 people at Guth¬ rie, 3000 are negroes. Langston City has 1000 negro inhabitants and no white men., The Balti more Sun, commenting oh the matter, says: It is the intention of the col onization society to make Langston City an exclusively negro town, and some $25,000 have already been subscribed to found a negro college there. All the property in that city is owned by negroes of the ^better class and is said to be held on the condition, or, at least, on of | the understanding, that none it is to be sold to whites.
