The information is that Gen.
Weyler brought over to Cuba
with him from Spain, some of
the smartest defectives in the
Spanish secret service for duty
in the city of Havana. He will
put them to work in that capital,
and if any of the residents are
heard talking favorably of the
insurgeuts or repeating stories
of their success in the province,
all the rigO''S of the law will he
applied to them—Savannah

A great deal has been said of
late by the papers of the state
about the “negro colony’’ near
Fitzgerald. Iu reply to the
question we would say that
some real estate men purchased
about 100 acres of land between
Fitzgerald and Abbeville at a
place called Queensland. They
have surveyed this land into city
lots, which they are trying to
sell to the colored people at $25
to $150 per lot. The celebrated
colony is merely a real estate
scheme.—Fitzgerald Leader.
Among the immigrants at
Fitzgerald are several doctors
and dentists, who expected to
continue to practice their pro¬
fessions in the colony. It trans¬
pires that under the laws of the
state they cannot practice with¬
out a license, and as there will
be no meeting of the state ex¬
amining board until June they
cannot procure a license until
that time. The law- makes
no provisions for any cincigcncy
of (he kind and there seems to
nothing that the doctors can
but wait —Ex.
“What’s tliis!” exclaimed
the young husband, r ft-ring to
memorandum she had given
him. “One doznn eggs i~

on extract, can of condensed
milk, dime’s worth of ground
cinnamon and a dallar's worth
of sugar. What do you want
of all these things,Belinda?”
“I’ve got a dry loaf of bakers
bread,”replied thejoung wife,
tliat I’m going to save by woi k
ing up into a bread pudding
I never let anything go to
waste, Henry.”—Ex.

Several Mi'ledgeville ladies
were badly taken in by four
women who went from house
to house selling hand-made
Irish linen lace. Their tale of
poverty and working to get a
home made customers for them
and they sold over $100 worth
of lace at 75 cents and $1 yard.
Later it developed that their lace
was not what it was represent¬
ed to be and could be bought
anywheie for 25 cents per yard.
The swindlers attempted to es¬
cape, but were overtaken and
made to refund the money.—

People may go about their
business without further anxie

A learned professer of astron¬

says it will not strike the
earth; that, as a matter of fact
it has already passed the point
at which there was danger of
the occurrence of a collision,
and that the comet came no
nearer our atmosphere than
15,000,000 miles. That, how
