The subject of Will Myers and
his escape has been partially re¬
vived by some of the big dai¬
lies. That Myers made good
his escape, seems to be the
only positive information con¬
cerning him.
There will be no Slate fair
this year because of the tact
that the last two were failures.
These fairs would be more high¬
ly appreciated and more suc¬
cessful financially were they
not forced upon the people ev¬
ery year.
The position of Congressman
Crisp challenges the admiration
of every Georgian. Open and
above board in all his political
movements, he stands with
bared breat and challenges the
opostles of the single gold stand¬
ard to meet him before the peo¬
ple for a discussion of the fin¬
ancial question.
The watchword with the
goldite press now is “democrat¬
ic harmony”. That faction has
recently came to realize that
the l i silver craze” is not so
thoroughly dead in this state
as they have been want to be¬

The political pot in Rockdale
is simmering and by the time
the mass meeting occurs on the
28th, it will have reached a
steady boil.
The Gold-bugs are clamoring
for time to convert Georgia.
The bi-metalists of the state are
vastly in the majority and they
will proceed to consolidate mat¬
ters and save time and expenses
as well as save themeelves un¬
told annoyance from Gold-bug
howlers.
Sam Jones is waking up
the dry bones in Atlanta. The
people ere hearing nim by the
thousands, aud it is to be hoped
that they will “receive the
word gladly.”
Macon is making arrange¬
ments to entertain the state
convention in royal style.
The people are iu favor of
consolidating The the primaries.
people are usually right.
When it comes to boltiug, the
single standard advocate is in

was partly composed of gold
bugs.
One primary will answer all purposes
and a majority of the people favor the
plan.
The siiiGle standard advocates are
becoming bringing desperate. They think of
Cleveland down to the State
Convention. Grover would have a
pleasant time at our convention.

Judge A, U. 3Ic('alla,of Rock¬
dale county, will be a candidate
for the senate from the twenty
seventh district.—Reporter on
Atlanta Constitution. There is
no doubt, in the minds of his
i,amorous friends, but that the
Judge will be in the race. His
candidacy has btui conceded
for several weeks.
We print in another column,
a call for a mass
meeting of the democrats of our
county on Saturday, March 28.
This meeting is called by the
chairman of the county Execu
live committee for the purpose
of naming anew committee and
- the consideration of
ror any
matters that may come
up iu the meeting. A full
resentatioo from each district in
the county should come
er on this occrsion and demon
their loyalty and faith.
Hon. Chas. P. Crisp and
Secretary Hoke Smith will
meet 1U joint debate at
ta on March 31st, and in Atlan
ta on the 2nd. of April. Sec¬
retary Smith announces that he
is not a candidate for the Sen¬
ate and doesn’t wish to become
one, but suggests that it is
seven long months before the
election for Senator will take
place in Georgia. Mr. Smith
is evidently on a quandary.
Mr. J. N. Hale, condidate for
represonative in the next Gen¬
eral assembly, of Rockdale, has
notified us that he will publish
an open letter to the voters of
the county in a short while-, de¬
fining his position upon im¬
portant political questions.
His communication will be
looked for with interest.
Action upon the Cuban res¬
olution still hangs in the Sen¬
ate. In the meantime the in¬
surgents are more than holding
their own with Gen. Weylev.
Which do the people prefer—
the 1 1 sound” money of the
bondholders’and mQney lenders
and poverty prices, or the hon¬
est dollar of 1873 and good
prices? It is all a matter of
preference. Constitution.
