We democrats must b'-audiug each other as al grand rascals, simply because we chance to differ on the fi¬ nancial question. If we expect to win any victories this fall we ID USt discontinue our abusive warfare on each other and get ready to fight our real political enemies.— Covington Enterprise In speaking of the congres¬ sional race in this district the Jackson Argus says t t Many people in the 5th have abused Liviugston severely but how he gets there and has made a pretty good Georgia Colonel and Congressman at Washing • I ton. The friends of Joe Blackburn say that he will head the Ken¬ tucky delegation to the Chicago convention. He was defeated for Senator by men calling themselves Democrats but he will have revenge when he gels before a convention that repre¬ sents the people.— Lawrence ville Herald. Some men are born great, others achieve greatness and a great many go through life thinking that they are a great sight greater than they really are and die greatly mistaken.— Rome Tribune. The Atlanxa f' onstituti on says: “The democrats will not have any straddle to confuse the people with this year, It will be a straight-out DJit for the lioncst money o-’ 187 OBITUARY. William H. Waldrop was born in Rockdale county, Ga., on June 2nd, 1884, and died near the place of Ins birth, April 1st., 1896, being thirty one years, nine months and twenty- nine days old Brother Waldrop grew up to be a good, moral, industrious man, and on Febuary 21st,, 1888 was happily married to Miss Genora Stanton with whom he lived most happily, and by in¬ dustry and frugality had gath¬ ered together a little store with which to procure for himself and loved ones a home and set¬ tle down to enjoy the comforts and blessings of life, when some mouths before his death he was attacked with that terrible affliction, a cancer on his mouth, which soon blasted all his hopes in this life and left him helpless and a great sufferer. Brother Waldrop embraced the Christian religion, and in October, 1895, united with the M. E. cnurch south at Prospect church. His religion was his only stay, but it is never fail¬ ing. Through all of his afflic¬ tions which grew more and mote unbearable, and of all the gieat number an different kinds v*e have witnessed, the worst, lie was composed and recon¬ ciled, triumphing more aud more to the last, and seemed to have, all the while a brighter and more vivid realization of a glorious resurrection. He tt leaves 1 the 1 example ir* ol a well spent life, and abiding con fiden.ee in the ehristain religion and a most triumphant death. Dr. ?i CO., 22 >i So. Jircad St.. Atlanta, Ga A FEW PERSONALS. Mr. II. Y. McCord is a gen¬ erous whole-souled and pros¬ perous sitizen of Conyers who does business in Atlanta. His is a generous business prosper jty in keeping with the open hearted tendency of his nature toward all with whom he comes in contact. Citizens such as Mr. McCord are not to be found simply for the looking. We are glad that the season has arriv¬ ed when he will be able to spend some of his time at home. Mr. T, E. Brodnax is taking a rest. The fact that he is not traveling may be due to sick¬ ness in his family. He is here, however, and spends some of his time with his friends about town. He is both genial and clever aud accommodating to a fault. He is a gentleman who thoroughly appreciates his friends. Mr. Chas. Farrill, with IT. P. & D. M. Almand & Co., is an in¬ defatigable worker. He seems to have an end in view and that end success. Now, we know of no road leading more surely in that direction than the one Chas is traveling and if he keeps up at the present rate, we have every reason to believe that he will reach the coveted goal. If we would speak of Mr. W. U* Wallace, in a manner that he deserves, we would have to discard the relationship existing between vis and look upon him as an individual and friend, and as he might object to such stony-hearted proceedure, we will modify our language in reference to his admirable dis¬ position and success aud leave him to the judgement of the people.
