The Editor of The Banner Makes a short reply to tha Weekly in his issue of the present week simply “to correct a false impression,” which our remarks concerning his politcal views, created in the public mind last week. if the gentle men feels that he succeeded in makiug the correction we are perfectly satisfied. It may be our stupidity, but up to date we have been unable to deter¬ mine just what he intended to rectify aud why he concluded liis reply without making the correction. We may say just here, that the gentleman cannot do him¬ self justice and charge that we we misrepresented him iu any particular, in our article concerning his visit to us. We are willing to leave it to any honest and intelligent gentle¬ man in Conyers, that the two little editorials squibs clipped from the Banner of last week, and used and commented upon editorially by the Weekly two days later, covers entirely, the principle statements in our arti¬ cle relating to his call aud his proposition. In other words editor O'Kelley forestalled us in making public his views ce¬ garding delegates to to the state convention. This is true, if we are able to grasp facts, and beleivingit to be true we also believe that we have done the gentleman no injustice that score. Not sarisfied with one blow at the ‘inexperienced” editor (he doubts if he drew blood) he crossed into another column and ventures the suggestion that we used a ( < tirade of strong language” against him¬ self and Dr, Stewart, and with his customery consideration nassesrhe uukindness heaped upon himself, but breaks the record and rebukes us in behalf of Dr. Stewart. It is human na¬ ture for a man tdesire company when going down and this good brother forces Dr. Stew¬ art to accompany him in this instance. It is rather an unus¬ ual occurance but in this case it is absolutely true that editor O’Kelley forcibly links Dr. Stewart’s name with his own, in the vain hope of strengthen¬ ing his position. There was neither “ridicule,” nor “burlesque” in our editori¬ al relating to Dr. Stewart,s fi¬ nancial views. No man will deny that vve had a right to ask in. behaltof the people, where Dr. Stewart stood, we did ask, earnestly and respectfully, and until,Dr. Stewart notifies us that he looks upon that edito¬ rial interogation as doing vio¬ lence to his grey hairs. We shall hold in memory our neigh¬ bor’s unjust, unfounded and altogether pncillanimus insmua. tionthatwe are uot respectful of old age. Livingston Speaks. Congaessman Livingston made a speech at the court¬ house last Monday night which was listened to by 300 men. The rain kept many away who would otherwise have gone out to hear the doughty representa¬ tive of the fifth district. He spoke for about 50 min¬ utes upon the financial question after having first paid his re¬ spects to Hon. O. I. Branan, hi s Opponent in this race. His argument in behalf of the double standard was strong and it was easily apparent that his audinance appreciated the telling blows he hit iu the de¬ fense of silver. Mr, Livingston expressed his regret that Mr. Branan had refused to join him in debate before the people aud stated that he could not discuss the gentleman aud liis candidacy as he desird becuse he wms not present to defend himself. Of the voters present a large majority were for Livingstou. Congressman Livingston is engaged to speak at Columbus today, Friday.
