Harr . Hill is wiiting a book in which he proposes to give the history of his crime. This will be more pleasant than working in stripes. Lord Beresford has located at Fitzgerald where he is conduct¬ ing an insurance aud brokerage business- It is said that he is meeting with encouragement in his new home. Will Myers is still unaccoun¬ ted ior'and reports of his cap¬ ture in far atvay communities have ceased to be heralded abroad. Cleveland goes out on March 4th. Many will rejoice in his passing to private life. The legislature convened last Thursday to receive the report of the Sweat-Reese investigating committee The report of the committee, exhonorating the two judges, was accepted. It is said that Texas is seeking negro emigrants. It is propos¬ ed to move entire families of negroes to that state free of charge in order to secure their labor upon the farms. % J *— 4 — -----; 4 —i - Georgia is enjoying about as much prosperity as any state in tin* union and-the entire South is free iYoui bank or any other kind of failures. Our section, from a busines view, is iu the front. Small manufacturing Enter¬ prises have never yet failed to matt'Dally aid in the upbuilding of a town. Conyers shuld take Block in this truth. Electric lights would be one of the best investments the town could possibly make at this time. A mountaineer from near El lij iy is on his way to Cuba. He proposes to join the insur geqt gniiy and hopes to do up Weyk-r 's gang in short order. — -* • -- —,— The editorial page of the Evening Constitution is a gem every day in the week. It is made up of reading matter that is restful as well as helpful to the mind. Rome is after another cotton Factory . The people of that thriving little mountain city know a good thing when they see it. An old man died in Sparta, Ga., last week and left fifty thousand dollars that will like¬ ly go into the state treasury. If he has an v relatives they are un¬ known to the people of Sparta. The old man went to that town hi his youth and established a jeweler’s shop. He attended to business and practiced economy and the snug fortune he leaves is the result. He never spoke of relatives and the people of Sparta considered him en tirely alone iu the world. Electric Lights. It is just possible that Con¬ yers is nearing the period that will usher in electric lights. We venture this suggestion on the stsength of a little agi¬ tation of the question on the part of the city council at its last regular meeting. Whether this agitation results in any positive action or not, it is some consolation to the Weekly to know that the city government realizes the necessity of better Btreet lights. The lamps now used are scat tered at long intervals and af fords only scant and flickering light within a small radius. It is a light that blinds the eye and makes the darkness darker, Much complaiut is heard on haud concerning the city’s poor ligts and every one must admit that there is just cause it. Some improvement be made. An investigation as to the cost establishing an maintaining an electric plaut adequate to the demand for thoroughly the city should be made the mayof and council and report of said investigation to the people. Intelligent action in the matter will speed¬ develop the fact, in our hum¬ oDinion, that the town can electric lights and that to! such lights would be of benefit to us in every , PIANOS AND ORGANS M. Govt Report. m i -., Baking Powder m I Electric Lights for Conyers Editor Conyers Weekly: Why not have this enterprise ing little city lighted with t deity? This is one of the questions of the day,.and a good many Con yersites are in favor of electric lights, Don’t be afraid of it because it is a new proposition. Look imo it and consider it. Weigh the cost and the advantages. Electricity is becoming the light and the motive power ev¬ erywhere. It is time to get in line with the progress of the times, Our streets and houses can be lighted cheaply by electricity, and it will not only be a corn fort and a convenience, but an advertisement for the place. Our people opposed the intro¬ duction of matches, and some may now be against electric lights, but the world has to move on, and we must make an effort to go with it. The introduction of electric lights will do Conyers more than the erection of a doz- en stores It will be a long forward, and the cost of such au improvement is hardly worth counting Wallace P. Reed. Judge sweat is being reques ^ed to take a back seat by some papers.
