When Sheriff Austin, of De Kalb swings Flanagan and Par¬ ry his county well be freed. Tlie Queen’s jubilee must have been executed to the ,: Queeen’s taste . ) ) It is said to have been the grandest d;s play in the history of the v. oiId % When the statistician come; to make up his record of hang ings for Georgia for 1897 he will have quite a job on his hands The record has been broken in Georgia, sure. An effort is to be made to have the present administration appropriate three million dollar; to he used in buying a suitable site and erecting a new and palatial White House, This will ho approved by the people Senator Clay is meeting I he highest expectations of his friends in his new position, and the record ho is leaving behind him is one that proclaims his statesmanship and conserva tism. We all appreciate Mr CJay in this neck of the woods The fiht that the Blalock com¬ mittee is making on Commis¬ sioner Ni belt, of »lie Agricul¬ tural Department, appears to bn a mighty llimsy affair. Ii pains most people, and if pos¬ sible renders the committee more unpopular than ever. The proposed annexation of the Hawaiian Islands seems to have disturbed theMikadn. We are glad of it, and hope that still other and more important obstacles may appear to thwart the scheme. What in thunder would wc do with the Islands if wo had them? Let the Japs inerem e the kick. Terrell Hudson col., was luu- -yd in Decatur yesU-rday at noon. Hudson killed a negro in DeKnlh county about a year ago- It is said that Hudson yv a - frightened into msen-dlnli bilily and it is doubted if he knew what was taking place when preparations were being made for his final plunge, lbs neck was broken by the fall The Rome Argus, in speaking of Judge Jno. S. Candler, says: ‘•Hi- is a record of which any man may feel proud. It is marked by rapid promotion from one position of honor to another, and by uuwavoring fi deliiy to duty and faithfulness to every trust. On the bench Judge Candler stands pre-emi¬ nent. He has won an enviable reputation among Georgia judges, and Ins risen to a high .’ pU- in the col li li nee and fee! , of lio people. •« lull t it h ,nor noi 3 , w di-. lit tl.i Hu- I,,,,-; upi lglit .a* judge. Leonidas F. Livingston, who represents the Fifth Georgia Congressional District, is one of the best look¬ i. in the House. The rea¬ ing men son for this it is claimed that he does not drink Washington whiskey, like the other mem¬ bers from this state. There are a large number of moonshine whiskey manufacturers who are constituents of the Colonel, and they see that lie is well supplied with the genuine “mountain dew,”—Marshall Banner, (Ala.) The Banner is growing ‘ fuu ny” early. The ‘ardent spirits’ cuts no figure with Congress¬ man Livingston and his hand¬ some appearance is, perhaps, due more to that fact than any tiling else. Gen. Gordon was re-elected Commander of the Confederate Veterans Association at the re¬ union in Nashville this week. Judge Juo. S. Candler is fast climbing the ladder of fame lie is to-day the most universal¬ ly popular Judge in the State. The next, re-union of the Confederate Veterans will be held in Atlanta. Tin's city will not fail to properly care for the old soldiers when they congre¬ gate'within her gates. It seems that Congressman Livingston is likely to have op position from Atlanta again. So long as it comes from Atlan¬ ta we presume there is no need for the Colonel to tear his hair. Entertainment. The entertainment given by Prof. ForestvjWood for the bene¬ fit of (lie Presbyterian church was not very liberally patron¬ ized, but those who were pres out enjoyed the recitations and character representations 0 Prof. Wood very much. IIo is an accomplished artist in his line and we wish more of our people could have been present. Notice.
