According to Appointment tbe Dem oerntic Executive Committee of "Ruck ; j dale county met and tbo bod/ was formally organized by electing John It. Maddox chairman, and John W. McClnug secretary. The fallowing resolutions were adopted unanimously: AVherea®, Tbe State Democratic Ex eoutive Committee has called a prima election for Juue Gtb, 1898, for the purpose of nominating candidates for governor and state house officers -or tbe ensuing term, and Whereas, The State Democratic Ex the purpose of nominating supreme ».«■«»«...... meeting held in this county on April “Wherei , It is nice sary for the lg, " ,yo ' ,b ' D *“°' cratic party that all primary elections be clean, open and fair, and Whereas, It is impossible to have such primaries without proper safe¬ guards and restrictions, therefore bs it Resolved First, By the Democratic voters of Rockdale county, in mass meeting assembled, that it is the re¬ quest of this convention directed to tue County Executive Committee, that in making rules to govern all Demo erntic primaries during their terms of office, they shall declare that none but white Democrats shall participate or j vote in Democratic primaries; that candidates for the various offices shall uot be recoguized as the nominees of •he party where it is shown they se¬ cured their nomination by tbe use of money, whisky, or any other thing of v Ice directly or indirectly, to buy votes. Resolved Second, That it is not in¬ tended by this foregoing resolution to exclude any white person, entitled to vote, from votirg in saii primaries, who will pledge himself to abide the actii n ami vote for the nominees.” Resolved First, That this committee most heartily approve of tbe senti¬ ment of the resolutions, and embrace tlm opportunity of expressing publicly our disapproval of the “use of money, intoxicating liquors, or any other thiDg of value,” as hire, as in the na¬ ture of paid canvassers, etc., to ob¬ tain votes. Should evidence of such unworthy practice be brought to our attention before the time of consoli¬ dating the returns, after the primaries, we will deem it our duty to repudiate such conduct. Resolved Second, That a primary election be ordered in accordance with the foregoing preamble aad resolu¬ tions for the Gt i day of June, for the purpose of nominating candidates for „ and state house officers. And in case any one of those who i have been reqeusted faii or refuse, for any cause, to assist in holding the elections then the remaining two are mutually to agree upon some third person. That the Resolved Seventh, returns are required to be at the courthous for consolidation by 12 m. on the days following the said elections, and the executive committee is hereby request¬ ed to meet at the court house at 12 in. on .June 7 and on June 24th for the purpose of consolidating the returns and declaring the re-ults of the said primary elections.
