Polk took Ayer’s Pills I trow I or his liver, 50 years ago. Ayers Cathartic Pills wore designed to supply a model purgative to people who hrd so long injured themselves with griping medicines, feeing carefully prepared and their in¬ gredient* adjusted to the exact necessities of the bowels and liver, their popularity was in¬ stantaneous. That this popu¬ larity has been maintained is well marked in the medal awarded those pills at the World's Fair 1893. 50 Years of Cures. Passing Out . Populism is a thing of the past. Once there was a st rong yoiutg pni fcyin Georgia, well organized, har¬ monious and ambitious; backed by men of some repute politically who had faith in the future of populism, and the nerve to risk their political destiny with that, ot the new party. Then the doctrines of populism were upon appeared every ton¬ gue and to some it a promising youngster. ambitious But to each and all of the men who have seized its banner, and Bought, to bear it. to victory, has come defeat. Much political his¬ tory has been added to the records of the State since this youngster appeared to disturb the peaceful¬ ness of Democracy, but not a sin¬ gle page records a triumph for pop¬ ulism ; not a single page exists to which followers of this party can turn and read exultantly. Defeat lias been tollowed by defeat ; di¬ vision and discord have appeared in the ranks; fusion with repub¬ licans has come and the original populist party has disappeared and a political remnant exists to-day upon prejudices engendered in past office-seekers. and kept alive by designing There is no real hope for tlu* party. It's leader. Thus. E. Wat¬ son, seeing the beginning of the. end. withdrew from politics and returned to the practice of law. The recent election in Alabama was but one ot many nails that will be driven into the party's casket this year. In this county the candidates of the party are working as if they realty hoped for election. They Are seeking to organize t he colored voters through the intlueuce of fu eion with the republicans. These are made by those who are candidates, and these candidates are republicans and populists. They the stand side by side, voting same ticket but differing more widely in doctrine than do the democrats and populists. Reason has been abandoned and greed for office so possesses those who still cling to the forlorn hope that principles are forget in the mail scramble. By playing upon the prejudices of tliosi whose reason has been warped and whose judgement is in subjugation, they make political workers and enthusiasts of men in t heir party who would not. un¬ der any circumstances, be allowed i.) liold tlie lowest office in the gift of the people. Happy are we that this blim trust, like the party that inspirer it, is gradually but surely passing out. Its existence has been a curse to this section and men win once endorsed it condemn it non forever more. There is less reason to-day for i third party in Georgia than ever before and the populist party and les.- to¬ day is worse thap useless t han powerless. It has sickened in a great measure, by afflictions its own un¬ cleanness and its ar< such that death alone can relievi it. The candidates put forward ffi the party time and time again an in the race to-day, and if tendered the nomination, would be in at the bitter end. These men lmvt little to hope for politically.
