His death was caused bv typhoid fever and inflama tion of the brain. Tiio dc ceased was a brother of the late Mr. Chas. Hicks who died only a short while t go. We extend our sympa¬ thy to the sorrowing relatives. Guano agents will have to hustle from now-on. Farmers are not going to buy in large quantities this season and if an agent would run up his sales lie must sell to many men. This will necessitate hurried moving about and the ag'ent who liasgood goods and at¬ tracts the widest attention, will have the best sales. Dr. Latinie Martin lias located in Conyers and will open up dental par¬ lors up stairs in the Night building the first of next week. Dr. Martin comes well recommended and hopes to secure a good patronage. He is a relative of our fellow-townsman, Mr. John W Johnson. Dr. Martin’s card appears elsewhere in this paper. Mr. It. W Tucker now owns the old home place of the late J H Almand sr., he having bought it from (ho oth¬ er heirs of the estate by reason of the fact that lie was willing to pay more for the property than any of the oth¬ ers. It is a valuable place on Deca¬ tur street and Mr. Tucker will im¬ prove it at once. A number of his friends went up to Atlanta Thursday to attend Mr. S. L. Almand’s trial. The trial didn’t oc¬ cur, however, and the indictment was quashed because of a technical error in the instrument. Mr. Almand's friends feel confident that he will be acquitted. M:s. Richards, widow of Mr. IT Richards and sister of Mrs. Col. Liv¬ ingston, died at her home in Newton county last Wednesday night. She was widely known and much loved for her many admirable traits of character. She leaves a lrr;o circle of sorrowing friends and relatives. Notice the change in Street <& Wil¬ lingham’s advertisement in this pa¬ per. You can buy anything you need in the grocery line, of this firm and get it cheap for cash. A considerable amount of cotton has been brought to town this week and we are told that over about South river the farmers are not through picking. The sale of the personal property of the late Mrs N. C. Almand, will occur on next Friday, Jan. 27, at her late residence on D-catur street. The sale will begin at ten o’clock. Mr. V. Washington has seemed a fatal point to prominent men the past few weeks. Garcia, Morrill, Ro¬ meo and Dingley have closed their careers there. A Kansas man is said to have his windmill located where it will rock the cradle, run a sewing ma chine, mix bread, churn and kick the dog. He started to fix it so it would talk about his neighbors, but his wife arose to a question of privilege, and the old man had to sustain it. It won't do to crowd labor-saving machines too fast on some people.—Ex. Georgia will receive for the next five years for her 1800 able bodied convicts $178,820 per annum, or $892,250 for the entire period. This revenue is based on an aver¬ age of $99,18 each per year for the hire of the convicts. Under the old lease the State derived only $25,000 from the hire of tho con¬ victs—a clear* gain in* income of $158,420 per annum.—Ex. TO RENT. The store house now occupied by Mr. A B Osborn.
