Ballots will fall thick aud fast in Georgia next Tuesday. l’he latest from the Philli, - p, nc9 _Aguinaldo is fixing come again. A cotton growers convention is being hold in Macon to-day. About one thousand farmer* are expected to bo iu atteud ance. Hon. W. h. Peek was made clnirmau of the Populist Na¬ tional Convention at Cincinnat ti. This is quite a distinction and is duly appreciated by Col Peek’s friends here. The National Convention of the People’s pa»ty as Bioux Falls, S. D., has nominated William Jennings Bryan foi President. The mere mention of his name created the wildest enthusiasm. • • Dr. Len G. Broughton has again denounced Mayor Wood¬ ward, of Atlanta, and demands his immediate itupeaclmunt. He charges the Mayor with m ich drunkenness and oilier conduct very unbecoming a high official. It is said the mayor will not resign. Atlanta wasvis’ted this week r;::;:" the Ware Furniture Go’s, large plant together with more than thirty residences. Another one destroyed a dairy with eleven hersofc. The total losses will foot up, probably, more than two hundred thousand dollars. Barnum knew what he was saying when he remarked upon the gullibility of the American people. The coupon crazq a teiitahle swindle iu its concep¬ tion, has taken every form of circulation that ingenius ras¬ cality can imagine, and is now on its rounds for anything you can want. (Communicated) Mr. Editor We have two can¬ didates to vote for for represen¬ tative,—both are good citizens and both of them have many true friends. So far as I know nothing can be said against *-itherof them as to their hones¬ ty, faithfulness and general worth. But taking the two men as they stand to-day I see no reason on earth to compli¬ cate a man in making up his mind as to which one lie should vote for. I)r. Turner, the pres ent representative, made a good, member of the last house: not a single complaint, so for as I know has been made a gainst him and his voting rec¬ oord shows up to the entire sat¬ isfaction of the people. This hu mg true he asks the voters of county to honor him with a t°coiid term and I feel that it would be gross injustice and ffiow a lack of appreciation of faithful service to refuse him. He is a representative man (this is more than can he said of many) and the interest of Rockdale ore safe in his hands. If the people have the interest of the county at heart there plain duty will urge them to vote for Turner. Aspiring men sometimes app!> for that for which they are ill suited and to gratify them would be to humiliate rather t ^ an ] lonor them- Not so with Tlirnf , r He jg capacitated for the place and will render acceptable service. If the people will only consider the case in the right light it will not tako long for them to determine that Turner i* the man entitled to and most fitted for the place. A Voter. • « Pugilisls Corbett and Jeffries fought for the championship of the world in New York last, night. When you want a cool, refreshing, delicious, exhilerating and healthful drink call at Dr. LEE’S DRUG STORE. That debonair young gentleman, Elgin Stewart > has become an adept the dispensing of drinks and he will always be pleased to srve you. Clean Up. The people of the town should bear in mind that it is time for a general spriug cleaning all about their premiers, The health of the community is now good and in order to keep it good this precaution 'hould be taken at ouco. Don’t wait un¬ til a case of fever develops in your family before you take ac¬ tion. Clenliness is absolutely necessary to healthfulness and all citizens should promote it in every possible way. If you have a bam yard give it a thorough cleaning up that it may uot be offensive to your neighbor If you have a nig pen by all means keep it in good older. It will be bad enough at best. The marshals have been in¬ structed to make a general in¬ spection of the city and report all unhealthful or objectionable conditions they may discover and this inspection is to begin at once. We hope all may be ready for the coming of the officials Contrilmtcd. Look at the records of our Bit— poripr courts for 1he past, eight or ten years—see who has been solic¬ itor and judge and see who have sworn on liquor cases from Shuf field. Call out their names one by quo and ask them if they ever hoard an officer Say, “I want to want to see. one man from Shef¬ field who will swear the truth in a liquor case.” IIow can any mai: wit If a particle of pride or man hood support a man lor office who speaks of them in such a manner.” “Suppose when the vote of Rock, dale is counted on next Tuesday night, there is not ono against George Gloat on, is there a man, woman or child who would not feel a thrill of pride! Boys, let’s do it. Let’s drop, for once, all petty spite, do a noble act and reap the benefit a thousand fold.” William J. Bryan is now the foremost democrat of the land. I am a candidato for Judge of the Stone Mountain Circuit I am known by every voter in the county, for I was born, raised and have always lived among the peo¬ ple of Rocivdale and Newton coun¬ ties. Mv wife and children have all been brought up here. All my social aud financial interests are among these people. I for one, am proud of the boys and girls that have been raised here and who have succeeded in all parts of this land and i:i foreign lands. Rockdale has reason to, and can point with pride to those who have left her. We all have reason to be proud of our county. Have we not got plenty of good materi¬ al left vot? andean they not dis¬ charge the public duties as well as aspirants from other sections Now in this race for Judge, let each man who reads this take it as a personal request from me to him to vote and do what he can for me in this race I am a county man. You have no other county man in the race for Judge. Now please lay aside any little person¬ al jealousies and solid give me, and ymr I county man, a vote, will promise that yon shall have no cause to regret me your why support. 1 can see no reason I should not get the support of ev¬ ery one in the county, for I feel conscious that I have never done a man, woman or child an inten¬ tional wrong, and that I am Com¬ petent to and will discharge the duties of the office acceptably I to to life people if elected. can¬ not visit and see each man in the five counties and ask his help, but every man in Rockdale should take it for granted that I not on¬ ly want him to vote for me but to do all he can for me in the ad¬ joining counties of Newton and DeKalb with their friends. If they will, 1 feel sure that I will be elected. Respectfully, Gleaton. Geo. W. , Primary, May loth 1900. Why SSolicitor Kimsey Should lie Retained. No one has had a better oppor Utility for judging of the qualifi* cations of the several candidates tor for Solicitor-General solicitor v enerat . than than the tne undersigneed. I know all ot __ the gentlemen well and, having at tended all the courts iu the cir cut regularly ever since the Stone Mouutain Circuit .was created, feel prepared to say, without de tracting in the least from the abil ities and fitness of the other can didates for this position, that noue of them will make anv bet ,,r solicitor that. Captain Kim sey. In tact, the circuit has nev er had a more honest, painstaking and conscientious officer, or one who has discharged his duties with any greater success, (as an «xanu nation of the records will show,) than our present solicitor. Sure ly such an officer is entitled, if any officer is. to a second term. He has had it but one term. To hold anv public office means a Menace of cue's private buaineM. aud il a man w^o has made a good officer is to he dropped out after one term, when he has iust be¬ c 16 ' 51 ,, a acquainted „; injl ; ntp( i with with the the dn dll ties, . good afford no man can to accept any office whatever-. Cap tu in Kinisey will <**» make us a more •® eie,, » «*. prying officer tor the next term than he has during the present. I believe that it would be to the interests of our county should we stick to the old rule that no good officer should have opposition for his sec¬ ond term. Captain Kimsey has been sick in bed since March 28th, and una¬ ble to urge his claims for this of¬ fice, while hisoppnents have been making a thorough personal can¬ vass of the circuit. Gan any man who believes he has made ns a g< od and fait hful officer, or who has not abundant reason for believing one of the other candidates will make us a better officer, refuse to help him under these circumstances? He is a Christian gentleman of unquestioned integrity, and can we afford not to endoise him? I sincerely hope that the ballots on the lStlimav prove that the ma¬ jority of our people, at least, are of tlie opinion good that officer we cannot af¬ af-, ford to turn a out. ter but one term, without a good reason, I trust in the wisdom and fidrnvss of tlie II. people.
