Owing to scarcity of raw Mate¬
rial, high price of the same and
low price of manufactured cotton
goods,many cotton mills are shut¬
ting down. Manufacturers claim
there is no profit in the business
at present prices of raw cotton and
the low price of the manufactured
goads and they see no way out oth¬
er than to close down. All admit
that the cotton crop is shorter
than last year.
Texas Storm.
The daily papers for the past
week have been giving to the peo¬
ple in their dispatches, the bor¬
rowing details of the great Texas
storm which swept the southern
coast, destroying life and property
for 14 hours last Saturday and
Saturday night. It is estimated
that five thousand lives were lost
in the storm while many million
dollars of property was totally
wrecked at Waco, Houston, gal
veston and other places along the
coast. The people were left home¬
less and helpless and a most dis¬
tressing state of affairs exist in the
storm swept district. Relief is
being sent from all sections;

Conyers Cotton Market.
Up to the present time Conyers
is more than holding her own in
the cotton market. Our buyers
have been paying 104’cents pet
pound and above that figure all
this week. It may be put- down
as a fact that farmers are safe in
bringing their cotton to this mar¬
ket. They may count on the buy¬
ers here. Another advantage in
the farmer’s favor who comes to
Conyers is in the buying of goods
at a great deal lower figure than lie
can get the same thing in other
towns. The farmers of this and
adjourning counties know this and
are profiting by it every day.
We urge all farmers to investi¬
gate these statements and take
note of the cash which come to
them as a result.
