(Submitted photo) Former POW to be honored in Forsyth A Navy pilot and pris oner of war during the Vietnam conflict will be honored in Forsyth on Saturday, Dec. 5 by the Military Full Gospel Fellowship (MFGF). Capt. (Ret.) Chuck Klusmann of Pensacola, Fla. will receive the MFGF's Michael Bradley Memorial Award during a 6-9 p.m. meeting at the Forsyth Shoney's. Klusmann was one of the first Navy pilots to fly missions in Vietnam in 1964. On his first reconnaissance mission over Laos in 1964, the enemy riddled his RF-8 Crusader with anti-air craft fire and severely damaged his left wing and caused a fire which burned for 20 minutes. Klusmann and one of the Laotians evaded their pursuers for nearly four days before finding a friendly camp. Klusmann rejoined U.S. forces, but learned later that the other two Laotian fellow escapees were recaptured and executed. "This brought home to us that the price of free dom is never free," said Klusmann. Still, Klusmann's unarmed reconnaissance flights to photograph enemy camps continued until his aircraft carrier, the USS Kitty Hawk, was set to be relieved by the USS Constellation in the summer of 1964. But on his last mission, June 6, 1964, Klusmann's fuselage was hit by anti aircraft fire and he was forced to eject. According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), those between the ages of 0- 16 are more likely to acquire and spread the flu and are more likely to be hospitalized. Therefore, effective Monday, November 2, 2009, visitors to the following hospitals must be 17 years of age or older to visit any area of the facilities: Coliseum Medical Centers + Coliseum Northside Hospital + Houston Medical Center + Perry Hospital + The Medical Center of Central Georgia The new youth visitation policy will remain in effect throughout the current flu season, or until further notice. Hospital officials express their appreciation to the community for their understanding and cooperation with these efforts to minimize exposure during this active flu season.
