taking orders for
Christmas poinsettias
Oct. 20-Nov. 17. All pro
ceeds benefit the
Monroe County 4-H pro
gram. Large poinsettias
($20) are about 3' tall.
Medium ($15) are about
1 1/2' tall. They are
available in red, white
and pink. Pick up is
Dec. 3 or 4, 8-5 p.m. at

A sweet Lions
Club Raffle
Forsyth Lions Club is
raffling a chance to sat
isfy a sweet tooth in a
big way. The winner will
receive a dessert every
month for a year start
ing in November. Some
of the deserts mentioned
include: hummingbird
cake, cheesecake, fruit
pies, cinnamon rolls and
a lot more. It should be
a "sweet" year for the
winner. Tickets are
available for a $5 dona
tion for one or $20 for 5.
Proceeds go to Lions
Club charities, which
include providing glass
es for people who can't
afford them, helping
people find medical solu
tions to vision-related
health problems, help
ing train guide dogs for
the blind, and other
related causes. The
drawing will be held on
Nov. 9, just in time to
help out with
Thanksgiving dinner.

Lions Club member or

Life Kick-Off
Monroe County’s Relay
for Life is starting its
2016 year, the 23rd year
for Relay for Life in
Monroe County. Kick-Off
will be Thursday, Oct.
29, at the Monroe
County Clubhouse at 6
p.m. Hot dogs and
drinks will be provided.
All members of the com
mittee, Monroe County
Leadership Council,
team captains, team
members, and prospec
tive teams are invited to
attend. Please bring a
side or dessert to share.

Child Safety Expo
& Trick or Treat
Coliseum Medical
Centers will host the
2015 Child Safety Expo
& Trick or Treat event
on Saturday, Oct. 31
from 9 a.m.-noon. This
is a free event for kids
and families to learn
valuable, life-saving
information while hav
ing a great time. In
addition to trick or
treating through the
new pediatric ER, par
ents and children can
learn safety tips on bicy
cles helmets, safe sleep
ing habits, fire safety,
poison control, gun safe
ty, and more. Car seat
checks and Child ID kits
will be available.
Children will enjoy see
ing a fire truck, law
enforcement vehicles,
ambulances, and even
an air evac helicopter.
There will be inflata-
bles for the kids with
free popcorn and cotton
candy. At 11 a.m., all
kids will be invited to be
in a child safety parade
led by Eddie Eagle. The
event will be in the
parking lot of Building
B at Coliseum Medical
Centers (350 Hospital
Drive; Macon) and is
sponsored by the
Pediatric Emergency
Rooms of Coliseum
Health System.
Jay's HOPE Trek
or Treat Road
Race
Jay's HOPE’S 10th
annual Trek or Treat
Road Race will be on
Saturday, Oct. 31.
There's a 5K, 10K,
Unspooky Sprint and a
Candy Mile where kids
collect thousands of
pieces of candy. It all
starts at 8 a.m. at Bass
Pro Shops in Macon and
travels in Monroe
County and back. What
makes this event so sig
nificant is that it's the
kick-off to Jay's HOPE'S
10th anniversary year.
This organization start
ed in the home of Cindy
Gaskins while her child,
Jay, was on treatment
for a brain tumor. Ten
years later, Jay's HOPE
has served close to 500
families throughout the
state with a child bat
tling cancer. For more

exhibit of railroad mem

Clack Chili Cook-off,

under the sponsorship of
the Monroe County
Library this year. The
KOA trackless train will
be back, and local musi
cians will perform
throughout the day.

Georgia will have their
work, in various media,
on show and for sale.
Operation Life-Saver
includes a simulation to
teach safety when deal
ing with railroads.
Middle Georgia
Mustang Club will
exhibit automobiles
from the collections of
its members and others.

Jay den Wayne Chitwood
Shawn and Samantha Chitwood of Forsyth
are proud to announce the birth of their son,
Jayden Wayne Chitwood on Tuesday, Oct. 20,
2015 at 1:43 p.m. at the Medical Center
Navicent Health in Macon. He weighed 6 lbs,
10 ounces and was 19.5 inches long.
Grandparents are Terry Newberry of
Forsyth, Sharon Gazaway of Royston,
Michelle and Dale Norris of Carnesville and
Douglas Chitwood of Hartwell.

Ethel King of Forsyth is the mother of George Bernard
King who was elected and installed as Eminent Prior, the
highest Masonry position in the jurisdiction of Georgia,
and as Most Eminent Grand Commander of John H.
Deveaux Grand Commandery, Jurisdiction of Georgia and
U.S. Virgin Islands in September.
