to have a cargo of scrap iron consigned
to the Isaac Joseph Iron Company. It is
stated the cargo will be discharged here
for foreign shipment.
The new compress on Hutchinson's
Island was worked for awhile yesterday.
Sevtral bales of cotton wtre put through
it. and the work is understood to have
been satisfactory.
Hie tug Sophie is to repaired in a fetv
data by The Savannah Foundry and Ma
chine Company, She will be thoroughly
overhauled, and among other things her
machinery repaired. The company re
cently did some extensive work under the
superivalon of Mr. Richard Burns on the
pilot toat J. H. Estill.
Among the large number of visitors In
•Savannah for awhile yesterday many
found their way to the river front, and
took a look at the shipping. For the
most part the vistors made their obser
