A CHANCE FOR CORCORAN.
George Pierce of Louisville Is Seek
ing a Fight.
As prize fighting seems to have such a
call in Savannah it is not likely that the
promoters of the sport will reject the
opportunity to secure another first class
go here. The opportunity is offered.
George L. Pierce of No. 523 West Mar
ket street. Louisville, Ky., has heard of
t he fame of Corcoran and wants to ar
range a match with him. He writes
Cileries H. Levan to the effect that he has
j Uft succeeded in putting Jack McCul-
V out in nine rounds and that he had
l„ en informed by McCullough thEit there
was a good man in Savannah by the
ri m of Corcoran, with whom he, McCul
lough, had once been matched, and that
l,c would liko to arrange a match with
Corcoran.
This is the same McCullough of Bir
mingham with whom Corcoran had a fight
at the theater last summer, the referee
aw.j fing the decision to McCullough on
a foul. Pierce states that he is in good
trim and anxious to fight. As he is still
in funds from his recent fight he does not
ssk anything of the people here except
„ place to train.
I con weigh in at 150 pounds easily,"
he writes, “and will guarantee you that
1 w ill give Mr. Corcoran one of the hard
est battles he ever fought, if I don’t put
him out. T found McCullough extremely
clever, but he couldn't stand the gaff.
In case you can’t arrange" it I wish you
would refer me to someone who will as
sist me in arranging the fight.’’
A? Mr. Levan is giving his entire at
tention to his restaurant and cafe he does
not care to give any time to arranging
a prize tight, but there are doubtless
other? who will very readily take Mr.
Pierce’s suggestion and proceed to ar
range the preliminaries.
