JILIIS CAESAR IN BLACK.
Savannah Dramatic Association Pre
sented Stinkespenre's Tragedy.
The Savannah Dramatic Association,
colored, presented “Julius Caesar.” refer
red to In the hand-bills as "one of Shakes
peare’s most brilliant plays," at the thea
ter last night.
The part of Brutus was played by K. N.
Rutledge, Cassius, by B. H. Godfrey. An
tony, by G. M. Brown, and Caesar, by
John F. Andrews. These were the bright
particular stars of the aggregation, and
they shone with an effulgence that cast
the remaining members of the cast into
deep shadow.
The noble Brutus seemed to have Im
bibed somewhere and somehow a strong
predilection for the Gullah accent, ac
quired probably during some expedition
among the marshes that surrounded the
Imperial city'.
Casajua’ energy was something remark
able. and he talked to himself with the
same earnestness with which he scattered
wisdom among his noble companions and
fellow conspirators and the plebeian popu
lace.
Caesar’s manner betokened an acquaint
ance rather more with the tricks of the
Prize ring than with the stately and cere
monious etiquette of the throne room and
'he salon. He dodged and sidestepped
with an opt quickness chat would have
won him a backer in any pool room in
Rome and displayed physical proportions
that would have made the gory athletes
of the olden days look like dirty deuces
In anew deck. When Calphumla was
remonstrating with him and seeking to
Induce him to abandon his intended visit
to the Senate house, Caesar said:
"The things that look upon me, look but
upon my back;
When they shall see the face of Caesar—
they vanish."
Brown, as Mark Antony, displayed real
dramatic qualifications, that cannot be
spokrt, of lightly. He. has a fine figure
and n voice that Is at once robust,
dear and sympathetic. He used, it, too.
with Intelligence and force, end made the
of the evening. His manner and
■ arlng were easy and graceful as long
he attempted no forceful gesticulation,
'hen only did he become grotesque. His
forceful declamation of the lines that
follow the exit of the conspirators, when
he Is left alone with the dead body of
' vtnr. earned him a curtain call.
The other members of the east, for the
most part, “were too good to be true.”
7 hey were apologetic, when they should
have been fiercely denunciatory, and they
assisted in the final taking-off of Julius
with a lack of enthusiasm that Indicated
’hoy didn’t mourn Caesar much. The
warning of the soothsayer, relative to
what was like to happen on the ldcs of
March, had Its solemnity rather Impaired

Maria O. Hayzel, writing from Brooklaud, D. C.
”My health seemed utterly gone. I suffered
from nervousness, female weakness and rheu
matism. Life was a burden. I doctored with
three different physicians and got no relief. I
tried several patent medicines, all with the
same result. I began to get worse and to add to
the complications I suffered terribly from con
stipation. I chanced to see one of your adver
tisements and I commenced to take Dr. Pierce’s
Favorite Prescription and ‘Pleasant Pellets’ and
began to improve right awny, aud continued
improving and gaining in strength. I cannot
express the relief, it was so great. Seven
months later my little daughter was bora with
out much trouble. I feel that I would never
have been able to endure my confinement only
by the help due solely to Dr. Pierce’s medicines.
Sne was a fine healthy child and the only one I
have ever been able to nurse. She is now two
years old and I have never had to take any
medicine since, so 1 feel that your medicine has
made a lasting cure with me."
