Yesterday parties in the city from Wil

White on Tuesday, for the theft of two
stalks of sugar cane from the patch of a
negro named Naioieon Anderson, who
live* near Hwmion. and the subsequent
arrest of Anderson by the officer*, upon
the charge of interfering with them In
the discharge of their duties
It seems that the two men mentioned
ond Deputy Marshal George Thomas and
Special Revenue Collector D 8 Muse
went down to WUktnaon county to make
a raid upon Illicit stills. At Irwinton the
parties separated. White ond Vigil going
In one direction. and the oth

could not resist the temptation to get a
stalk erich In the past the* negro ha*
been bo the red a great deal in this re

M D H Baum stood their bond*. A*

meiliairly arrested the negro, and though
a numlser of white men offered to go bail
for him. (hey refused to let him go and
started In a buggy for Mclntyre to catch

with them handcuffed. Mr. Baum and tn*
other cltlaen* of Irwinton thought that
the negro was being badly treated and
followed the parties to Mclntyre and
forced them to rel* ase the negro
Mr. Baum stated to th*m
that he woqjd come off their hovuft and
turn them over to the sheriff if they dli

the negro If he would consent to dismiss
the case against them, but he refused to
do so Sentiment in Wilkinson Is with the
