The cotton market was marked up H
cent to-day, closing firm, with no sales
reported at the Colton Exchange The
recelpia continue In fair volume, with the
prospects favorable for further Improve
ment.
It was another day of revelations to
bears In the cotton futures market. Prices
bract and up early In the day, and at each
tiansactlon reported moved steadily up
ward. until a net advance of 3$ and 43
points was scored. Conditions combined
to send prices up. and among these was
a better Liverpool than expected, a bull
ish Chronicle statement, large sabs of
c.oths. better tone of e(iot markets, and
reports magnifying the damage resulting
from the recent storm In Texas. Another
factor In the upward turn was a large
sprinkling of shorts, who got In yester
day In anticipation of unfavorable Lit
eriiool cabiea to-day, but quickly sought
shelter when the downpour started. About
al. tho conservative aliment care to say
about the market Just now Is that It Is
Irregular and excited, and that opinions
art mere guesses.
The spirits turpentine market dosed firm
st 35 cents, with the market swept, and
s bitter feeling prevailing towards the
closing at 3 o'clock. Ftom the light re
ceipts It would seem that an advance Is
tn store, unless Monday’s receipts show
up well. Roslna closed firm si a decline
of live cents on D and below. The whole
sale markets were steady. The following
