The cotton market closed quiet to-day
at a decline of 4c throughout the ltn

year, and 3.101 year before last, flood

Savannah sales on the spot were 1.437.

Realising Results In Severe Inroads
on Prices.
New York. Sept. 19 —Quit* aevere In
road* were made on prices before trading
had slopped on the Block Exchange to
day and an average level wa* established
considerably lower than Ihe low point
touched on Monday morning before the
rally commenced. The difficulty of con
tinuing ihe advance which wa* fell yes
terday und was emphasised this morning
prompted the trader* lo take their profits
and the two day* advance eras effectu
ally wiped nul.
After the speculative holdings which had
la>cn hought on Monday were dislodged
the market came to a pause and rallied
slightly, hul to was attacked again In the
last hour and sold vigorously by the
hear*, making the dosing easy and near
to the lowest level of the day Asa re
sult a long ll*t of prominent railroad ami
miscellaneous stock* show nel losses
ranging from 1 to 2 point* Tennessee
Coal was the most conspicuous for weak
ness and fell over four point* on large
selling, closing with a nel loss of 3%. The
weakness was the more conspicuous as
other stocks In the steel group were re
latively steady up in a lal* hour. The
Special weakness of Tennessee Goal was
due to 'he heavy decrease In August sur
