The ih w divisions of Ihe riont System
sill be made In such a manner as to pre
serve the consecutiveness of tlie num
bers and the continuity of the system
The Second Division will follow upon
the First, the Third upon the Second, the
Fourth upon the Third and so on. As Is
now the rase, there will be six divisions
of the system.
General Superintendent MV It. Denham,
wno returned yesterday from a trip over
the system, said that the new demarka
tlon of the divisions had been found ne
ctssarv because ot the opportunity that
was thereby ofTercd for the # correctlon of
certain difficulties with which the officials
have had to contend. Bome of the di
visions have ben unwieldy, covering more
territory than those in charge could
superintend with the best results. Ity a
r>il,vision end a creation of new limits,
belter results are expected, and the work
of the sup-rtntendents will be made more
equal
Circulars defining the new limits will
aoon appear. They are now tn the hand*
of thr printers. They will show the su
perintendents of the new divisions, but
will not give the names of those who are
to be trainmasters. That Is a matter that
lematns for future srttlenii nt.
It will be clearly set forth In the cir
cular that MaJ. F. 8. Gadsden, superin
tendent of the Charleston and Savannah
Railroad, or the first division, retires from
that position upon his own desire. At the
last annual meeting of the stockholders
of Ihe railroad MaJ. Gadsden was elected
president, and It was then expressly un
derstood that he destfed to give up the
euierlntendenee and would do so when tin
ptoper time came.
Change* of a personal nature. Indicated
by the circular, will he few. Mr. W II
Wrtght. now trainmaster of the Scond
division, will aucred MuJ. Gadsden. An
Innovation will be Ihe establishment o
Mr. \\ right's headquarters as division su
perintendent In Savannah. He will man
age Ihe division eom|>>*d of the line be
twean Savannah ami Soulhover Junction,
with branches. Mr. F W. Kirkland, now
trainmaster at Thomesvlile, become* di
vision superintendent. Mr. George Hslnea
remains at Wayrross as super.ntendent of
the Second division. Other superintend
ents will remain as at present.

titter! to Get Acromodltlon Trains
Itflnrrn >s\nnnsli and Mayrrnas.
To the Clttxens of Savannah and also to
Residents along the Savannah, Florida
and Western Railway, between Way
cross and Savannah:
Last December I requested Mr R. O.
Erwin, president of the Plant System, to
give the patrons of the Savannah. Florida
and Western Road, who resale between Sa
vannah and Wayrross. better train ser
vl-e. Since that month severs! letters
have passed between us.
Ills last letter has Induced me to ad
dress you In this manner to get certain
Information that Mr. Erwin desires. I
quo;e from his letter. Speaking of the two
trains, one leaving Savnanah at 5 p. m.
und 4he other arriving at 10:15 a. m . stan
dard time (11:15 city time) he says:
"These trains seem to me to accommo
date. In the best possible manner, all
those who desire to do business In Savan
nah. not Including, however, suburban
residents who wish to live outside of Sa
vannah on she line of the Savannah. Flor
ida and Western and who would wish to
work In Savannah or do business there
regularly. For such u class a schedule
would have to be made which would put
them in Savannah at about 7 o'clock a.
m.. If they were working men. or. If they
were business men. about 9 o'clock In the
morning The question Is. are there more
than a few individuals constituting such
class? Resides yourself. I am not person
ally aware of any others living on the
line of the Savannah. Florida and West
ern who wish to live In the country and
work or do business regularly In Savan
nah. Are there others? If so. will you
kindly name them?"
There are but two ways for me to obtain
the Information Mr. Erwin asks for.
One is this public note lo you.
and the other is a personal
canvass of ihe city and the entire country
lying between Savannah and Waycross.
from house to house The latter Is. of
course. Impracticable. Hence I adopt this
plan.
What Mr Erwin dears, to know Is how
many wotklng men or business men wlh
to live in the country and do business In
Savannah. 1 Infer from his letter to me
that. If a sufficient number would do so.
to save the 8.. F A W. from loss, he
would put on and keep on a train to ac
commodate them—one like the Central's
"Shoo-Fly.” I request, therefore, the fa
vor of a postal card or letter to me from
each one of the class mentioned by Mr.
Erwin. An early reply Is Important, as
Ihe time Is now for the annual fall
change of schedule on the 8 , F & W. Ry.
Mr. Erwin overlooked another Impor
tant business e'ass They are persons
residing In Savannah and doing business
along the Savannah. Florida * Western.
Such as rtoe planters, owners of saw
mills and turpentine farms; and commis
sion merchants and factors tn Savannah
who are Interested tn such Industries:
and. also, drummers fer Savannah houses
There Is another class—those In Savan
nah who have relatives and friends re
siding along the Savannah. Florida and
Western whom they wish to visit; and
some who would spend Ihe summer there
If they could get Into Savannah in time
for business.
All these are deeply Interested In the Sa
vannah. Florida and Western schedules,
or train service. I will be glad to hear
from them also.
There Is another point In which I ask
for Information to be submitted by me to
Mr. Erwin It is this: Whe-her those of
you residing along Ihe Savannah. Florida
and Western and who eome to Savannah
on the train that arrives here at 10:1.1 a
m . (11:15 city time), agree with Mr Erwin
that that train "accommodates In tho best
possible manner all those who desire to
do business tn Savannah." When an
swering this question, please state your
experience as to the number of times
that train was on. or behind. Its schedule
time, when you arrived In Savannah on
It.
Briefly: There are three classes from
whom I desire replies:
First. Those who. with proper and per
manent trains, would like to reside on
the line of the 8.. F. A W . and do bus
iness In Savannah. Just as residents along
the Central do.
Se.-ond. Those who reside In Savannah
and do business In the country, that takes
them over the track of that road.
Third. Those who reside along the line,
and use the train scheduled to arrive
here at 10:15 a. m. standard time.
A statement by postal card will be suf
ficient. ...
A few words of explanation and I rlose.
I opened correspondence with Mr Er
win as President of Plant System, at the
request of some patrons of the road who,
life myself, felt and feel great Inconven
ience rauecd by the late arrival of Ihe
morning train, at 11:15 city time It then
was scheduled at 10.. or 11: city lime.
The reason* 1 urge for a change are not
pertinent here and now. I speak of ihls
because Mr Erwin says. "Resides your
self (me) I am not personally aware of
mv others living on the line of the 8 . P.
g, w who wish to live In the country.
,nd tt „ r k or do business regularly In
Savannah " Mr. Erwin Is In error. I do
not "live on the line of the 8.. F. * W."
1 reside tn Savannah, and am one of a
large number, as I believe, who reside In
S iv inn ah and have business in Ihe coun
try ’ and who desire, when we re.urn
home to arrive at a suitable hour for
t T M Norwood.
