The spot cotton market closed quiet to
day, at ii decline of % cent, with the de
mand satisfactory, and sales on the apot
good. The cotton futures market closed
barely steady at a net loss of 12 and p
point*. With the deprcaslng news of
day • wine a hitch estimate of receipts at
New Orleans for to-morrow, which had
the effect of keeping traders from tat king
tne lon* side.
Tha spirits turpentine market closed

yesterday’s price. There was a good In
quiry for supplies, ond after the closing
the market was said to ho tn pretty firm

changed. with a good demand reported

easy under free selling, against purchases.
From the opening the market quickly
rallied to the best pilces of yesterday, to
slowly decline before the publication of
the bureau report, to the opening quota
tions on the heavy receipts at New Or
leans for 40-morrow. A rally followed the
report, leaving the market quiet. The
trade thought the bureau report not quite
as bad as expected, but the feature of
the day has been 4he absence of the out
s' le buying, w hich was so m irked u fea
ture lost week. Loqolly the temper Is
In favor of a better market abroad to
morrow.

This market opened nervous about ten
points decline, owing to reaction In Liver
pool, and liberal receipts estimated o
day at ports. 6.00n bales, against 29.00
last week, and Sfl.Mo lasx year. Moderate
offerings after opening, and telegraphic
reports of damage in Texas by recent
storm, started local buying and caused
a reaction of 12 points, but Southern sell
ing led lo 8 points decline toward noon.
Cotton ruled feverish since noon, with
out any violent fluctuations until around
2 p. m . when general selling set in and
caused nhout * points decline. The weekly
weather report was considered bullish in
Its udml-slon of damage In Central and
Northern Texas from the recent heavy
rain storms, also In Ita reference to late
rapid picking of cotton, and that picking
I* nearing completion In some sections of
central ami eastern portion of the belt.

overdiscounted the decline, but the fail
ure of a small stouk firm and

ed the confidence of Ihe bears and their
attack on the market late In the day. was
successful In weakening It again They
continued their efforts to further the de
cline In prices this morning and had gool

failed to respond as readily as yesterday
to the weakness in these speetal stocks
