PAVING IN SOITH9IDE.
Jrff.-rsnn nuil Ora lon Street* l.lkr
l| to Hr Taken Ip Nest.
The alleti'lon of Alderman Dixon, chair
man of the Street and Commute*,
was called yesterday to a recent com
munication In the Morning News advo
cating the pavement of Barnard street
ftom Park nver.ua south to the limits, and
the extension of the present pavement on
Park avenue from Whitaker to Jefferson
The correal* talent urged that the Im
provement of liarnard street would be
much more appreciat'd by the property
owners In the southern section, and would
add more to the value of the property
there than other street improvements
which have been suggested for that sec
tion
Alderman Dixon said that he thought
the Improvement of Barnard street out of
question at present. The residents and
property owners on other north and south
streets would have Just as much tight
to expect and demand the Improvement of
(heir streets.
"The text work to be taken up after the
paving of Indian and farm streets." suit
Alderman Dixon, "will be to complete the
extension of Jefferson and Drayton streets
southward. These streets are already com
pleted to Anderson, and their s-xtenslon
southward, with the pavement of a cross
street, say Thirty-eighth street, would
give a complete circuit of ived streets
for the convenience of the people In the
soutln rn grctlusi. The properly owners on
Jefferssn are desirous of having that
street completed. It Is a better plan for
•he city, I think, to complete the paving
*<f those streets which are already partly
paved southward, than to have aeveral
partly pnved streets."
Alderman Dixon said It would not be
possible i<> undertake any additional pav
ing work this year, but that he might
Introduce oidtnanres In January for the
completion of Jefferson and Drayton
streets Drayton street Is at present open
only to Fortieth street, but sis the crows
street to be paved would hardly be south
of Fortieth, this does not matter much.
