of Bishop I'otter that "the saloon was a
social necessity, being the poor man’s
club." This remark was made by th©

man's Christian Temp©nnc© Union and
was the means of bringing forth cham
pions for temperance, said Miss Kearney,
from all over the country."

her work harder owing to the dispensary
system, than any work that she had

she had been interested In the cause of

rather thin prohibition, because prohibi
tion did not prohibit, and cited as an ex
ample th© ston* of Maine. But upon be

al! that he knew of the conditions was

to make th© same studies a part of the
curriculum of the schools of Georgia/*

present rose.
The lecturer was a? special pains to

under certain condition*, and in trying to

The monthly report of Superintendent
\V F. Chaplin showed that on Nov. I
there were 19 men. K> boys and 47 women
on the county's convict roll, ta total of
Jm. The dally average for the month was

history of the county. No. 1 camp at
the county farm contains 1* men. C> hoys
and 42 women, a total of IN Superin
tendent Chapl'n calls thia hit "deadhead"
camp, there being only six able-bodied
men In the lot. He would be more than
willing to turn this gang over to the State
Prison Commission, he states , it con
sist* almost entirely of Invalids, womi n
and minors
The county employs no chaplain for th
convicts at present. As then- are usually
three or four preachers on the gang it ts
considered unnecessary to go to tiny ex
pense on this score.
During the month the eonvicts com
pleted 2.HS linear feet of new- drainage
ditches and nlutshed K.T9O feet of old ditches;
2.150 linear feet of gravel was laid on the
Louisv-.lle rond between the five and slx
