weakness this side caused Liverpool to
lose part of her advance, their market
closing on an average of about one point
higher than laat night During early

10 point*, resulting In uncovering stop

New- York. Nov. 13.—T0-day’s relapse
In price# was qtille vigorously contested
by some powerful Interests still long of
slock, or which had Axed on a consider- j
able higher price level ns desirable to un- 1
load old holding# by s|te,-ulatlve |s,nls.
But the reaction was too closely in accord
with skilled opinion and observation to be
opposed with hearty conviction The real 1
question this morning was not whether or
not prices would decline, but how far the
de ‘line would extend. The qucallon still
remained undecided when the market
closed with speculative liquidation still In
force and prices on the down grade, except
where professional r<#>m shorts were tak
ing hasty pro Ats by covering lheir con
tracts
Asa result of the day s trading prices
In a number of prominent Industrials, In
cluding Sugar, Tennessee Coal, Steel and
Wire and People's Gas. suffered declines
of from 3 to 4 points and Metropolitan
Street Railway lost 4\ A still larger list
of Industrials f. II bet ween 2 ond 3 points,
and In the railroad list not a few losses
reached between 1 and 2 point*. The more
substantial commission houses In the
street have been advising their customers
r several days past, to take their profits
and to buy no more stock for the pres
ent. I'rofesslonal operators, except some
IKiwerful spe.dative pools, have sold out
on a very extensive scale and taken their
profits The extent to which lh, advance
has gone made the market, as a matter, of
course, topheavy. filled as It was with
many speculative accounts on light
margins, and backed by weak financial
holders.
I’rofesslonal hear speculators. who
have been alertly looking for the mom<r.t
of reaction ever since last Wednesday,
found that the free selling to-day for the
first time was not effectually absorbed.
Their efforts were reitou *led and when
prices began to make wide decline* stop
loss ord, rs were dislodged ond the fall
thus precipitated. The hear* were In a
reckb-ss mood and were quick to take
proflts. eau.-mg frequent rallies as they
covered their short contracts While some

It was at no time returned In force
The expectation of another large war
loan to be floated In London, depressed
that mnrkee ond was a direct Influence in
New York as w II It emphasised the ap
prehension hitherto felt of a farther Ger

lax supposed that, with tho huge Indebted
ness of the foreign money market to the

thorities can hope to successfully float
Ihelr loans without assistance from Amer
ican maikete. and Xpert* believe that an
outward movement of gold from New York
will probably l*e necraaary. The money
which Is used for speculative purposes In
the stock market Is money for which no
more substantial demand exists, and It Is
Invariably the rule that when any ad
vantageous opportunity for fixed Invest
ment of opltai. spec u.utlve borrowers

With this prospect In the future, call

loans, which forces! the rate up for sixty
