IS SEEKING A DIVOKOC.
Mrs. Nophle 11. Dnnlism's Ault
Against Ms J. Iftrndford lliinhiim.
A libel for total divorce was filed in the
office of the clerk of the Superior Court
yesterday morning that is of considerable
interest.
The plaintiff is Mrs Sophie R Dunham
and h* defendant MaJ. 11 rad ford Dun
ham, formerly general superintendent of
tho Plant System. An order to perfect
service of process by publication in the
Morning News was granted in the Su
perior Court In the afternoon, MaJ. Dun
ham. It Is understood, being now a resi
dent of Alabama.
The petition was filed by Mr. Georg© W
Owens, attorney for Mrs. Dunham As
soon as Clerk Carr’s signature had been
affixed. Mr. Owens took the iwipers trom
the clerk’s offi* e ami had not returned
when the office closed for the day.
A Morning News reporter called upon
Mr Owens at his office and asked for a
statement as to the grounds of the di
vorce.
•'lf I had desire*! to have the newspa
pers discuss this matter." said Mr. Owens,
"I would have left the |ietttlon In th**
lerk's office, for the perusal of reporter?*
It is a matter in which the public ran
have no proper interest, and I have t. *
intention of making any statement what
ever. It is merely to gntify what news
papers believe to be fh* prurient curios
ity of the public, a curiosity, by the wav,
which does not exist, that they desire
to discuss these unfortunate family dif
ferences. I have a perfect right to with
draw the petition from the Jerk's office
ar.d I have done so. When the case Is
:rle*l. there may be something for the
public to know; at present there Is noth
ing. and I have no intention of making
any addition to your present fund of in
formation.”
The filing of the petition cannot be sail
to have been altogether unexpected, m*
for some Irttle time there have been ru
mors of a divorce.
