Wombwell. Commissioner of Agriculture,
whose death at Chattahoochee was an
nounced In the Morning New* yesterday,
was Si years of age. He had l>c*n In
feeble health for several monhts and left
last week to visit Col. J. W. Trammell,
superintendent of the Btate Hospital.
Col Wombwell was a native of Jack
son county, where he grew to manhood
and enieted public Ufa lit Jan. 1*77, as a
clerk for Hon William D. Bloxham, then
Secretary of Biate. Col. Wombwell was
afterwards private secretary to the Gov
ernor. and for many years was the effi
cient secretary of the State Democratic
Committee. Hr was also a lawyer.

sioner of Agriculture In IMS. ami contin
ued in the office by re-election until hi*
death He was an efficient officer and a
valuable ntan In public affairs His friends
were not only In Tallahassee, but In all
