ture of to-day's cotton market has
been the small movement, and the ex
tremely small estimate of tbe insight
movement for the week as compared
with last year, both of which are re
garded as very bullish, and largely
accounts for the steady market we
have had to-day. Liverpool closed firm

narrow, but tbe tendency has been up
ward.
Tbe trade savors strongly of a holi
day season, and is mostly professional,
but the bull sentiment has predominat
ed during the latter part of the session,
and the genera) impression is that we
will see better prices next week. We

said and done the market to-day was a
greater exhibition of strength than
weakness. There wa* very little busi
ness. almost none, yet the prices held
well. Liverpool failed to advance n a

ran all the way from 35 t© 45 point*
over us on July, and May sold 15 to 54
points over May here.

premium, there 1* not likely to be much
pressure on the New Tork market; in
fact, it 1* a question whether short*
will not grow nervou* In event of good
exports and small receipts during the
next few weeks. It is a strong po
sition we have In cotton and the only
trouble i* trader* get too long and
have to shell out or, the first break.
At 15 rente cotton 1* selling at a good
price, and we would buy on breaks
only. In case Liverpool take* the cot
ton sh*> should take or the amount
there conversant with facts in the cage
believe she should take, there is likely
to be a lively market for some week'
For the present buyer* at 15 cent* are
not numerous, and it take* a break to
bring in business.
There seem* to be money in taking
cotton on weak spot* and not getting
discouraged because prices move some
lower. Buyers have always been able
to get out a profit trading on this basis.

market was irreguiar. goi r.g from one
extreme to the other several times dur
ing the session. The wet weather
throughout the winter belt, with tbe
abaenee of anything particularly bull
ish in eariy advices encouraged bears
to further press their favorite side.
The crowd bought on tbe light re
ceipts in the Southwest, w hi't were
ocij' fZ.W' against PA.'idf a year ago.
while shipment* were 172.W6. Local
receipt* 34 ears.
Com—Armour A Cos. were the best
buyers of both May arid July options
taking more of the latter, which ruled
relatively the stronger. The trade in
May ;* limited and nervous. The jit
trade is broadening somewhat on the
advance as a good many local opera
tors are inclined to tail on the bull op
erations .
Oats—Market was strong on small
local receipts, the wet weather and in
sympathy with the strength in corn.
The corn bulls were thought to have
given this market assistance from time
to tisrr.
Provisions—The hog situation caused
a sharp- break in all products. Re
ceij-ts were considerably over the esti
mate, and market at yards. I to 16
cents lower. Receipts at all Western
points were X-.WO over iast year.
