tained the identical provisions they now so
loudly clamor for. They indignahtly re

tendered, and now seek to reject the pres
ent terms because the same provisions they
once so rashly rejected are not again ten-
deml. W hen the amendment was offered

• ho controlled the legislature and
procured its rejection, aubnm that propo
sition to the iieople? No; they caused
the legislature to reject it without sub
mitting it to the people. They would not
let the voice of the people be heard, for
they knew the people would have accepted
ft. They w ilfully and criminally ignored
and trampled under foot the wishes and the
(ieare-i interests of the people. Had the
people been e<*asulted, the terms offered in
tiie amendment one year ago would have
been promptly accepted; peace, prosperity
and happiness would ere this have been
restored to (Georgia, and Georgia to the
Union, wliiiout a disfranchised citizen
within her bounds.

our people in their present deplorable con
