Mr. Eibert Lee was brought in sensible to the Savannah hospital where be died. Mr. Jack Lee haft been in a half erased condition from the effects of his wounds and has been unable to give any intelligent account of the affair. To-day a new puts has been put upon the matter. Mr Thompson bad noticed when he paii the Lees their money that tner burly looking negro lurking about the store. It was discovered that Isaac Minay, a Bulloch county negro of bad character, wbo had been in Savannah on tbe same day, bad boarded tbe Central railroad train late that evening and had gotten off at station 1 \*, about four miles from the scene of the murder, instead of going cot to sta tion No. 2, nearest his home. Euunrros, December 18.—Kit Tate was convicted in tbe county court yesterday of stealing cotton and sentenced tosix months in the chain gang. Jesse Heard was com mitted (or trial for burglary. He is charged with breaking the gin-house of D. M. Carl ton and stealing cotton. The indications now are that the gang of cotton thieves that have committed so many depredations in this county will be hrsken np. M Meyers, and his oc cupation as a dealer in dry goods and clothing at Augusta, Ga. He was partially awakened by the train conductor, James Fields, aa he passed through the car between Linden and Rahway. Almost immediately after this Mr. Meyers called out; "Halloo! pSrter. Bring a light, quick." The porter, H. B. Thomas, answered the summons, and the loss wu then reported. Mr. Meyer* seemed very much excited, and began tumbling about in a promiscuous manner the various articles in his bank. He had occupied an entire section since the train left Washing* ton, and on retiring, bad placed a small bag containing the $10,800, which were ip bills, under his pillow next the side of the car. He had slept very soundly all the way, and only discovered 'his loss when awakened. Pullman Car Conductor H. Knight was speedily informed of the affair, and the doors of the car were immediately locked. The passengers, all men, were closely ques tioned, and identified themselves to the apparent satisfaction of every one. Con ductor Knight said last evening that all the passengers in that car had engaged their berths through from Washington, and that no one left or entered the car between Wash in*ton and Jersey City. The report of the robbery was telegraphed to Jersey City from Elizabeth, and the occupants of the car were closely watched until the tram reach ed the terminus. At Jersey City, Officer Buskirk boarded the car and every nook and corner of it was thoroughly ran sacked. The passengers were all willing to be searched, and Mr.Meyers expressed him self satisfied with the examination. The case was also submitted to Special Detective Joseph D. Francis, pf tbe New. York divis ion of the Pennsylvania road, who carefully examined the porter and conductors. To him the porter said nfi bad noticed Mr. Meyers’s peculiar nervousness before retir ing, but he did not say he kad observed him taking particular care of any bag or package, but saw Mr.Meyers place his large %*alise under the lower bpnk, in which he slept. b Mr. Meyers did cot get up during the night. Conductor Knight said he had passed through the car every 20 or 30 min utes, and had found the porter at his post and awake in every instance. Mr. Meyers was called upon yesterday, evening, at the Bturtevant house. He is a tall gentleman, with brown whiskers, and about 36 years of age.
