STRANGE DISAPPEARANCE OF AN ATLANTA BOOK-KEEPER. Thomas E. Little, Late Book-Keeper of May & 00., Lost Since Tues day—Where Is He? “Thomas E. Little, Philadelphia, Pa.,” in a clear, bold hand, was the signature that was autographed on the hotel register of the High tower house, about the 15th of May, nearly three months ago. He came here from New Orleans to receive medical treatment at the hands of Dr. Calhoun, being tioubled with a sore throat, which de prived him of speech for two or three weeks after coming here. a His money being limited shortly after bis ar rival here, be began to look around for some thing to do so that be would be enabled to make a living and to pay bis board bill. He Secured a position with the firm of George 8. May 4 Co , who do business at 139 and 141 West Mitchell street, at a very small salary, $5 or $6 a meek, but be entered into bis work with a spirit that made a most, favorable impression on bis employers By bis regular hubica and Constant business application be aeon gained ibe confi dence of Messrs. May 4 Co. N jibing has been given bitn to be done but wba il was executed until the last mission he undertook to accom plish on Tuesday morning. Mr. Friiz, who has been in charge of the fac tory for the past six weeks, since Mr. May, 'be head of tbe firm, baa been north, gave Mr. Lit tle a bill Tuesday morning, between 8 and 9 o’clock, to be carried to tbe round bouse of tbe East Tennessee road for collection. Mr. Little glanced around tbe office a moment before leav.ug, and said be has going over to tbe boaidiog bouse, meaning tbe Hightower House, which is tbe third and fourth fluors over James’ Bank, before presenting tbe bill for col lection over at tbe round bouse. Mr. Fritz told him all right—to burry back as he had some thing else tor him to do when be returned. Mr. Little walked into bis boarding house ten minutes before 9, and being well acquainted with tbe family, as sion as be rer.cbed tbe office, not finding any one there, he rapped on the Ooor of the proprietor’s room, and in response Mrs. Hightower told him to come in and make him self comfortable. She expressed some surprise at seeing him home at such a early hour, and asked him why he left the left the office of Mr. May so early. Mr. Little replied that be had come up to give her (Mrs. Hightower) some money to give to bis washerwoman, accompanying this assertion by throwing tbe uiouey m Her lap. As soon as be had delivered tbe money to Mrs. Hightower be turned round, bowed to her and said be must be going as be had seme bills which be wanted to collect before noon and as be bad a long walk before him he must be going. lie was probably half way down tbe stairs when he turned round and retraced bis steps and asked Mrs. Hightower where her husband was. “He is asleep, Mr. Little, and I don’t want to wake him up, as he was up very late last night and needs the rest be is now enjoying. What did you want with him ?” “Ob, I only wanted to see him for a moment and pay him som money. But I can do that at dinner. Hurrying down the stairs he took one of the Whitehall street cars for his destination. Tbe next and last thing that was beard of him was when be went to tbe foreman of Jones 4 Vance, who have the contract of building the round house for tbe East Tenn , Va. 4 Ga. railroad. He went to tbe foreman aud asked him about some business matters, and was in formed that everything was ready, and the Slans were rolled up and banded to Mr. Little. Ir. Little returned them to the foreman and said: “1 have got another party to see before going back to the city, and I will oome back and get this before returning.” That was the last seen of Mr. little by any one in the city of Atanta. A CAHTOi/man called on Mr. Fritz this morn ing and asked him what be knew of the stranger and what condition bis books were in on his sud den departure. F ollowin is the statement of Mr. Fritz: “Mr. Little is from Philadelphia and had been in New Orleans, where he was taken sick. He remained in the hospital three months and when he came out his position bad been filled and be was with out a situation. So be came to Atlanta for med ical treatment as be had not entirely recovered from his illness. He commenced work here about June Ist and bus been prompt in his business since be has been connected with the firm. I sever discovered anything wrong or any irregularity in his habits until Monday, and then 1 think I detected the smell of whisky on his breath. He bad his coat stolen from him a few days ago, so 1 went to town and got him a new suit—a cheap one—which only cost me ten dollars. He had to wear it, as be had nothing else fit to wear. I think he had about twenty dollars ot his individual money on his person at the time of his disappearance. The suit of clothes and the money may have causecTTiTm toTiave been foully deaTTwith down in tbe rough part of town, where he was collect ing. I went down to look at bis room and every thing looks just like he had left it in the morn ing before coming to work. I found a letter there which I had given him to mail last Mon day. “How were bis accounts?” “Square to a penny. The last bill he collect ed was for a dollar and sixty-six cents, which was promptly entered on the cash book and the money put in the drawer.” “Well, what do you think of his disappear ance ?” “I think possibly he has either had a fit or some one has killed him for his clothes and his mon ey.” “Have you made any search for him, Mr. Fritz?” “Yes, I have looked for him myself and have given his description to both the'police and de tective force. “Have you heard nothing from either?” “No, I tare not.” “Give me his description, and I will publish it.” “Little is about forty-five or forty-six years old, and about five and a half "feet high, and weighs about a hundred and fifty pounds. He has burnside whiskers slightly gray and a clean face with that exception. He had on a mixed brown suit at the time of his disappearance." The report of the police and detectives up to the hour of going to press is that nothing has been beard from the lost man. “Said Aaron to Moses Let’s cut eft'our noses.” Aaron must have been a sufferer from ca tarrh. The desparation which catarrh produces is often sufficient to make people say and do many rash things and many continue suffering just »s if no such cure as t)r. Sage’s Catarrh Remedy existed. It cures every case from the simplest to the most complicated, and all the consequences of catarrh. A person once cured by Dr. Sage’s Catarrh Remedy will not be apt to take cold again, as it leaves the mucous mem branes healthy and strong. By druggists. Wanted—Boy to carry Elliott street route.
