BAN FRANCISCO, April 30.— This city paid its respects to Secre tary of .State William Jennings Bryan when he arrive*! here to-day from Sacramento. A large crowd greeted Mr. Bryan at the depot. A luncheon in his* honor was given bv President Moore and other officials of the Panama Pacific Exposition. Later he was tak«*n on a motor trip through Golden Gate Park and at Fort Blaney a troop of cavalry met him and escorted him to the *old review grounds in Presidio, where all the troops turned out to meet him. Later Mr. Bryan virited the exposi tion grounds He will return to Sac ramento to-morrow. Hundreds of boy'* and glrle attending the West Technical High School and the Cen tral High Scnool arc addicted to the use of drugs, according to evidence unearthed by detectives employed by the State Board of Pharmacy. According to one girl victim, who stole money to buy heroin, a drug store near one high school mokes a practice of selling to pupils. The druggist is said to have employed boy victim* of the drug to *ell it. "When these boys vaw fellow pupils who complained *»f headaches, bad severe colds or other ill* they advised them to try heroin.” the investigator* aid: "The adviser always had a *up ply to give away. Gregory, of Atlanta, a post office in spector. was here to-day in confer ence with the District Attorney with reference to the escape of "Portland Ned." ;i paroled convict, from Gov ernor Blease’s* office last week. Gregory had not heard of the es cape until he reached Seneca to-day. He left Anderson this afternoon to trail the man. Gregory landed “Port land Ned” in the Nolan McKinley gang some years ago.
