"Every Piano Bought of Us Boosts Cotion!
We are heart and soul in sympathy with the nation-wide move
' ment {o uphold the price of cottun. For nearly half a century we
- have shared the prosperity and adversity of Southern Cotton
Growers, and we eagerly seize this oliportunity to show by our ac
tion as well as by advice and counsel that the House of Ludden &
Bates understands and appreciates the present crisis and has the
~ courage to meet it squarely.
~ As the oldest and largest piano house doing business with the
- farmers of the South Atlantic and Gulf States, we consider it our
duty and therefore our pleasure to assist every cottongrower to hold
his cotton for a fair price. In sympathy with the “Buy-a-Bale”
? movement which has been so ably supported by Hearst’'s Sunday
American, we have devised two plans, either of which will assist our
patrons to secure a fair market price for their cotton. .

PLAN NO. 1 ~
»>
Until further notice we will give absolutely free a 400-pound bale of cotton worth $40.00
with each purchase of a new Piano or Player-Piano costing $275.00 or more. The only re
striction is that you must hold the cotton until the price reaches 10¢ per pound on the open
market. We do not expect to make any money out of this plan, but we jnow that it will im
mensely help our farmer friends and customers. As we see it, this is our plain duty and
yours. The Free Bale of Cotton will be our salesman and our special inducement to Piano
buyers throughout the South. The plan will take a thousand or more bales off the market.
~ As our Pianos and Player-Pianos are sold at one price, and the price would be the same
if you did not take the cotton, you have the opportunity to get your bale Free, and at the
. same time do your part in holding the surplus cotton off the market. You need the instru
. ment, then why not place your order with us? You get better value in your purchase, out
side of the F'ree Bale, than you can possibly find elsewhere, for it is a recognized fact that the
House of Ludden & Bates leads the entire South in QUALITY and VALUES. Easy terms of
monthly . auarterly or annusl navments will he arrafived to: anit veny sonvenienaa:

HNANSTTS BSUNDAY AMNNIUAN, ATUANTA, WA, BDUINDAY, m =, IVIa
We heartily indorse the advice given by Mr. McAdoo, our most
efficient Secretary of the Treasury. Take no counsel of fear! Thisis
the time for courageous action. Hold your nerve and your cotton;
The war will soon be over. Co-operate with us and other merchants
. and manufacturers who are working in your interest and we will win
the day for King Cotton and pave the way for prosperity such as the
South has never known before. :
We are offering to take I,ooob ales at 10¢ per pound from those
who owe us. Inaddition we are urging the leading piano manufac
turers for whom we are exclusive Southern agents, to buy 100 bales
each and hold them off the market. Our plans Nos. 1 and 2 as de
scribed below will greatly assist our new and old customers to se
cure a fair market price for their cotton. :
PLAN NO. 2
Until further notice we will accept Middling Cotton at a valuation of 10¢ per pound in
part or full payment for new Pianos and Player-Pianos. If ygur home needs a good instru
ment do not hesitate on aceount of the war or the price of cotton. You may pay as much as
you wish of the purchase price in cotton at 10¢ per pound, and arrange convenient terms,
monthly, quarterly or annual, for the balance.
The war can not possibly last much longer, and all financial experts agree in predieting
phenomenal prosperity for our country. In the meantime, do not sacrifice the welfare of |
your Home and Family by delaying to provide a suitable Piano or Player-Piano. Call and
let us explain, or write for particulars of this plan which makes Piano buying as safe, econom- 4
ical and convenient as it was before the outbreak of war, or as it will be when peace has
been concluded.
By virtue of the arrangement which we are making with our customers every purchase
of & Piano or Player-Piano made through us tends to uphold the price of cotton. We offer
you our best service and solicit your co-operation. : g
