The Southern Machinery Company,
with offices at 94 South Forsyth
street, Saturday announced that they
are now fully equipped to give serv- |
jce to farmers with the celebrated
Twin City Tractor, product of the
big Minneapolis Steel and Marhinvr_v‘
Company of Minneapolis, Minn. This
tractor manufacturing company is
one of the largest in the country, !
The Twin City tractor is famous in
the Northwest, for there it is widelyt
used in the great farm section with
many-miled acres. It s the leading
tractor in that section, and for this
reason the output of the factory has
been confined more or less to that
territory only lately having let con
tract with the Southern Machinery
Company to act as exclusive South
castern representatives,
In announcing thelr exclusive
agency for this well known tractor
in the Southeastern territory the
Southern Machinery Company s in
the market for branch dealers as it
is their intention of covering the ter
ritory in a very thorough manner.
Within the last sixty days, the)
time of their agency for this tractor, |
this concern has sold more than six
ty-twe tractors to the Southern
farmers. The Minneapolis Steel and
machinery Company is glving abso
lute and immediate delivery of trac
tors to this territory as they want
distribution as rapidly as possible,
C. H. Collins, general manager of
the Southern Machinery Company, is
a live wire in the tractor game hav
ing had a broad experience, He
knows tractor merit and knows the
process of selling them on a big scale
J. W. Fountain, who is in immediate
charge of all tractor sales I 8 the
other live wire of: this concern. The
iwo of them have some big things
for a big tractor sales campaign. The
tractor has the merit and the house
the push so the campaign will un
doubtedly be a big success.

Rain and Mud Keep
Salesmen Off Road
A rainy day is the bane to the
business of the traveling salesmah,
and such was his luck last week.
Reports from the leading wholesale
houses Saturday were to the effect
that while a very good week was had
all sales could have been a lot bet
ter but no kicks were registered be
cause the houses knew what their
men were up against-—rain,
The majority of men travel in au
tomobiles —and automobiles and
Georgia roads on a rainy day are
about as agreeable as a bulldog and
a house cat. The men know this
and therehefore when the rain sets in
for a stay of several days as hap
pened last week the men are forced
to make fewer sales than ordinarily.
But a single bad day does not
hother them —and sometimes several
days at a time doesg not bother some
of them who appear to be regular
“mud horges” from all reports.

February To Be
Big Busi Month
1g business ionta,
Says R, W. Barnwell
R. W. Barnwell, vice president of
the Ragan-Malone Company, whole
sale dry goods, was mighty busy last
week getting out real orders of both
dry goods and notions, the otders
being sent in by his salesmen during
the last week. When asked how the
month of February will compare with
the same month last year Mr. Barn
| well replied:
“We will more than double or busi
ness this month.”
That is a short answer but it is
thoroughly to the point and it tells
the whole story of big business. For
when a big dry goods house like the
Ragan-Malone Company doubles its
business during any one month over
the same month the previous year—
well, that's business!
' “The biggest single month’'s busi
| ness 1 ever had in my whole fourteen
years in the talking machine busi
ness'” was the answer given by E. N.
Upshaw, president and general man
ager of the newly organized South
ern Sonora Company, when asked
about his January sales. He stated
further than his increase in dollars
and cents was a little better than
$2,800 over his previous high month.
“It was very gratifying to us to do
such a business the first month. Dur
ing my fourteen years in the whole
sale talking machine business 1 have
had the pleasure of piling up some
pretty hefty months’ business, and to
be able to go out; with a brand new
firm and exceed any previous month
the very first thirty days of our ca
reer, is, 1 consider, a vprystriking’
tribute to the lines we handle,
namely, the Sonora phonograph and
Emerson records.
Fall Shoe Line

‘Nifty’
, Wil Be ‘Nifty
J. K. Orr Jr. says that the fall line
of, shoes now being prepared by the
Red Seal Factory is going to be one
of the niftiest lines ever put out by
the Orr plant. Salesmen will have
these shoes packed in their “old kit”
and out on the road again by the
middle of the month ready to smash
some records for real sales.
The J. K. Orr Shoe Factory is an
Atlanta factory—and more than this
it is a factory belonging to the South
east-—and it is needless to say that
its output of shoes is equal and sur
passes many of the largest shoe
houses in the country. But the J. K.
Orr Red Seal Shoes are far from
being at the height of their success.‘
