Thomas E. Watson will support
James A. Reed of Mpssouri for Pres
ident in the Georgia preferential pri
mary, in the event his name i 8 en
teraed, which now seems fully assured.
* This announcement is made by
former Representative Grover C. Ed
mondson of Bacon County, and is re
garded as authoritative. Mr. Ed
mondson, who ig very olose to Mr.
Watson and was in recent confernce
with him, makes the statemeéent in a
gigned card to the Macon Telegrapi,
which reads as follows:
“You are authorized to say that
the candidacy of Senator Reed will
regeive enthusiastic support from
Thomas E. Watson. (Signed) GROV
ER . EDMONDSON.”
OLD ALLIANCE RENEWED,
This is taken generally to mean a
line-up in Georgia between Thomas
. Watson and Thomas W. Hard
wick, former bitter political foes. It
really is a readjustment of an old
alliance, however, as Mr. Watson and
Mr. Hardwick years ago were close
allies, and Mr, Watson is generally
credited with having been responsible
for Mr. Hardwick’s first election to
Congress.
Senator Reed will begin a speak
ing tour of "Georgia at Moultrie
March 20, to be followed by an ad
dress in Atlanta at the Auditorium
March 22 and in Macon the 23rd. It
is expected these three addresses will
pe followed by add#tional addresses
in Rome, Columbus and Statesboro,
but that has not yet been fully de
termined,
It aleo may be stated that Senator
Reed already has tentatively agreed
to the use of his name in the Geor
gia primary and Mr., Watson's an
nouncement leaves little doubt that
it will be so entered.
FIGHT ON ADMINISTRATION.
Mr. Edmondson’s announcement is
taken to mean the withdrawal of a
petition now well under way to enter
Mr. Watson's name in the primary,
his promised support of Reed rend#r-‘;
ing further progress with that un
necessary.

They are Stephen Y. Philibosian

the deaths of members of their own
families in the massacres carried on
by the Turks after the signing of the
armistice. Arrangements for ad
drosses by any of the three Arme
nians may be made by communica
tion with L. E Platt, campaign di

~ Contracts were signed Friday by
which Atlanta will be able to wit
ness for the first time the sensa
tional flying feature of changing
‘planes in the air performed by
'Roger Q. Williams, oneé of America's
foremost daredevils of the clouds,
‘according to announcement made by
R. M. Striplin, secretary of the
Southeastern Fair Association,
~ Mr. Striplin said he held a con
ference Friday with Curley Burns,
manager of the act, and succeeded in
booking the feature for Lakewood
Park May 1. In addition to this fea
ture act a complete flying circus
‘will be brought to Atlanta, the pro
gram to include triple parachute
leaps from airplanes, wing walking,
and upside down flying.
“There has been no feature of fly
ing that has attracted as widespread
attention as the changing of planes
in the air with the aeroplanes trav
eling at the rate of 100 miles an
hour,” said Mr. Striplin. “At the
'big fairs last fall one or two such
acts attracted enormous crowds but
unfortunately some of the fliers at
tempting the feat were killed and
the presentation of the aet was un
certain. This winter Roger Wil
liams has perfected a plane chang
ing act which recently was featured
at the Gasparilla carnival at Tampa
and proved the most sensational act
of its kind ever offered there.”
“Heretofore 1 have been anxious to
bring the change of planes to At
lanta but could not find an act I
felt certain would appear on time
and in which the feat of changing
planes would be performed at such
a low point in front of the grand
stand that every person could obtain
4 clear view of it. I found that
Roger Williams has so perfected the
act that the two 'planes flying at
the rate of 100 miles an hour are
brought directly in front of the
grandstand and that repeated
changes are made. When I ascer
tained that this act had been de
veloped to this point I immediately
booked it for May 1.”
Announcements “of the flying pro
gram for May Day 'will be made
later by Mr. Striplin. P

Scout Field Day Will
Be Observed Saturday
Scout Field Day, scheduled to take
place at Piedmont Park Saturday,
March 13, will be held in spite of the
street car strike.
Saturday afternoon at 2:15 o'clock
the bugle will sound assembly and
the events will begin. It is believed
more than 200 Scouts will witness
the scouting contests..
No prizes are at stake.
Among the judges will be Dr. Ralph
Muchenfus, an experienced Scout:
George F. Barber, physical director
of the Y. M. C. A.; Victor Vietor of
The Georgian, Boyd Taf®lor of Em
ory University and others.
Scout FExecutive A. A. Jameson
says indications are in favor of this
year's Field Day being one of the
beat 1n Atlanta’s Scout history, since
the trocps have faithfully practised
scouting and will be represented by
many boys instead of a few crack
Scouts.
The events will cover Scout meth
ods in tent pifching, knot tyving, sig
naling, bpandaging, fire building and
equipment races.
