BY DEC. Ist, 1920
THE ATLANTA GEORGIAN
Contracts were signed Friday by
which Atlanta will be able to wit
ness for the first time the sensa
tional flying feature of changing
planes in the air performed by
Roger Q. Williams, one of America’s
foremost daredevils of the clouds,
according to announcement made by
R. M. Striplin, secretary of the
Southeastern Fair Association.
Mr. Striplin said he held a con
ference Friday with Curley Burns,
manager of the act, and succeeded in
booking the feature for Lakewood
Park May 1. In addition to this fea
ture act a complete flying circus
will be brought to Atlanta, the pro
gram to include triple parachute
leaps from airplanes, wing walking,
and upside down flying.
“There has been no feature of fly
ing that has attracted as widespread
attention as the changing of planes
in the air with the aeroplanes trav
eling at the rate of 100 miles an
hour,” said Mr. Striplin. “At the
big fairs last fall one or two such
acts attracted enormous crowds but
unfortunately some of the fliers at
tempting the feat were killed and
the presentation of the act was un
certain, This winter Roger Wil
liams has perfected a plane chang
ing act which recently was featured
at the Gasparilla carnival at Tampa
and proved the most sensational act
of its kind ever offered there.”
“Heretofore I have been anxious to
bring the change of planes to At
lanta but could not find an act I
felt certain would appear on time
‘and in which the feat of changing
planes would be performed at such
a low point in front of the grand
stand that every person could obtain
a clear view of it. I found that
Roger Williams has so perfected the

Pryor Street Collision
Reported Unavoidable
No police case, it was said Friday,
will result from a collision Thurs
day at Pryor street and Trinity ave
nue between the automobiles of A.
J. Taylor of 93 Fortress avenue, and
Mrs. J. T. Hyde of Lakewood eHights.
No one was injured in the accident,
and the cars were slightly damaged.
The oollision was caused when
Taylor swerved his car to avoid hit
ting a pedestrian.
act that the two planes flying at
the rate of 100 miles an hour are
brought directly in front of the
grandstand and that repeated
changes are made. When 1 ascer
tained that this act had been de
veloped to this point I immediately
booked it for May 1.”
Announcements of the flying pro
gram for May Day will be made
later by Mr. Striplin. ;
