' ALBANY, N. Y, March 12.—Gov
ernor Smith, according to friends,
\hag decided to become a candidate
for re-election on a “wet” platform.
It is understood the governor during
his tour of the State in behalf of
child welfare and milk legislation,
which begins with a speech today at
Syracuse, will sound district leaders
on the outlook in their territories. A
demand for repeal of the ratifica
tion of the eighteenth amendment is
expected tc be one of the planks in
the governor's platform.
The proposed investigation of Wil-
Hlam H. Anderson and the Anti-Sa
loon League is now backed by the 35
ex-gervice members of the assembly.
Lieut. Arthur E. Brundage, of Orange
(‘ounty, a former member of the 107th
infantry, 27th division,* acting as
spokesman for this group, said:
“1 voted to investigate Andersomw
because I disapprove of his methods
on the floor of the Legislature. It is
time the ministers woke up to the
fact that Anderson is doing prohibi
tion more+harm than good. Even
after faccomplishing prohibition he
keeps up his abuse and attempts to
drag in religious matters along with
his abuse of public men. I suppose
he has to do that or he would lose
his salary.”

Michigan Rivers on
. .
Rise; Ice Dynamited
(By International News Service.)
PORT HURON, Mich., March 12.—
High water is reported from many
se?ions of Michigan, many streams
nedring the danger point. Seventy
five families on Hull's Flats near
¥lint were driven from their homes
when Thread Creek flooded city
streets with several feet of water.
Dynamite was used in breaking up
ice jams to relieve the flood situa
tjon above the city. Flint River,
too, is within one and a half feet of
its record and fear is expressed that
an overflow will occur. The Shia
wasee and Cass Rivers which empty
into the Saginaw River near Sagi
naw, are badly swollen.
The Grand K\lver is rising but the
channel is kept open by dynamiting
ice floes.

dren.
The medical department reported
