Ad Club Seeks to Ban All Ob
jectionable or Fraudulent
Advertising. :
Close inspection of all forms of
advertising in Atlanta with a view to
eliminating fradulent or objectionable
advertiging was being taken up Fri
day by the Advertising Club of At
lanta through its new vigilance com
mittee, appointed by President Dave
W. Webb at the luncheon Thursday
afternoon, .
The committee is composed of Har
rison Jones, chairman; Wilmer I.
Moore, Beaumont Davison, Fonville
McWhorter and J. M. Van Harlingen.
The club was addressed at its
luncheon by P. F. Nichols of the
Georgla Tech faculty, who spoke on
“Advertising as a Profession.” Mr.
Nichpls traced advertising from its
earliest days.
“John the Baptist was a great ad
vertisingg man,” he says. “He an
nounced himself as a ‘voice crying in
the wilderness.’”
Mr, Nichols took up the develop
ment of modern advertising and de
clared that it had been of tremendous
value in building up industries.
“Jt has made the luxury of yester
day the staple of today.” he said. “It
has created new wan)"f to be filled.
It has raised the staWdard of living
throughout the civilized world.”
Howard See, harpoonist of the day,
urged the club to use its efforts to
wards obtaining better school build
ngs for Atlanta, not only for the
schools’ sake, but because the exist-.
ing structures will be a poor adyer
tisement for Atlanta when the great
convention of advertising clubs is held
here, as {s expected, in 1921,
