Indications of a decline In money rates

to the fulfilment of expectations that
the return of the emergency money

New York, May 31.—Tho enormous
soiling of July cotton that took place
on Tuesday was repeated this morning
and the result was a further sharp
break In prices, until July sold some 60
points below the level touched last
week. The liquidation In July Induced
short selling of the new crop months
during the early morning, nnd the
hammering carried prices down 13 to
15 points below Tuesday's closing
price. Trading was on an extensive
scale for the first time In several
months, and It looked very much as
though either cotton taken on May
dontracts had been greater than an
ticipated when bulls started to deal, or
else crop accounts from the South are
very much better than reports would
tend to Indicate; that Is, the reports
circulated by some of the houses get
ting out small figures on the average
condition. In either event, there was
too much cotton held, and bulls con
cluded to get out before the bureau on
Monday next. The old crop months ap
pear to be lees under the Influence of
manipulation now, while the new crop
will move In response to weather. On
any further decline there will be a suf
ficient short Interest In the new crop to
cause steadiness in the event of any
unfavorable weather.
