The body of Miaa Hunt was rescued by her
father. It was found floating in a rift. Tbe

body of Miss Bartlett was found, at the bot
tom of the deep pit, partly nndsr a rock just
below tbe Falls. Tbo body of Miss Otis was

: Rats may be very useful as scavengers in cer
tain localties, but they also destroy a vnst
amount of property.
There nre only two public rat pits in the
city, though there Are u number of private
ones. At the principal of the public pits
which is kept by Harry Jennings, there are
i ti an average?!vc hundred rats killed every
week or all together 28,000 a year. Those
who keep pit? p»v six pence each for all rats
brought to them. The rats are caught by
professional rut catchers, or by stable boys,
l> itoher boys and others. There are only
four professional rat catches in the city-
one of these catchers on an average fortv,
rates every night
To do this they use certain oils which nt*
tract tbe vermin. Sometimes they use ferrets,
but they do not thrive in this country. One
gentleman, who brought thirty lerrets to this
country within n twelvemonth, has now only
one alive, al! the rest having died of convul
sions. Induced by climate or some local cause.
