Dade Selective Service Board Designated
As Official Veterans Information Center
Designation of Selective Service i
Board No. 1 as an official Vet-
terans’ Information Center of the
United States Government was
announced today by H. F. Allison,
chairman of the board. The
board is located on the square in
Trenton.
The new veterans information
center has been officially named
by the Retaining annd Re-em-
nloyment Administration which
is charged with the co-ordina¬
tion of U. S. Government agen-
'•i°R serving veterans. The board’s
location as a veterans informa¬
tion center is identified by a
colorful poster bearing a large
"eproduction of the gold dis¬
charge emblem.
“Our local board has induetted
a large number of men into the
armed forces during the last five
years,” said Chairman Allison.
“Now we are ready to assist
these same men in re-establish¬
ing themselves in civilian life if
they want and need our assist¬
ance.
“Congress has provided many
ights, privileges and benefits
for ex-servicemen and women.
These rights and benefits are
orovided by many different laws
and are administetred by a large
number of different agencies.
It is the purpose of our veterans
information center to aid the
veteran in getting to the right
place and obtaining the right
so that he may take
of all benefits to
he is entitled.”
Chairman Allison pointed out
hat persons who left positions
to enter the armed forces are
entitled by law to reinstatetment
in the old jobs when they re¬
turn, if they fulfill certain re¬
quirements of the law. He ex¬
plained that it is part of the local
ooards function to assist the
veteran in asserting his re-em¬
ployment rights. The local board
s also charged by law with rend¬
ering aid to veterans seeking
new employment.
“Many veterans, of course, will
lot need assistance,” said Mr.
\llison, “for industry and busi-
less in general * already have
;een to it that former employes
n service are welcome back to
heir old jobs—or better ones.
But, a large number of veterans
.re not familiar with their rights
o re-employment and what they
■re entitled to in the way of
preference for new jobs. Full
nformation is available at the
Deal board and the veteran is
irged to come in and talk over
lis problems.”
Chairman Allison said the
>oard also will advise and assist
he veteran with his other prob-
ems, including his insurance,
jrl loans, educational opportuni-
ies, and the like. “All these ser-
ices,” he said, “are free to the
