V- < WHAT IS SIN? Often people fail to sense the real danger their souls are in •'am!? the wrong influence they leave because they do not under¬ stand what sin is. “—It is not in man that walk- eth to direct his own steps.” Jer. 10:23. God has given some definitions of sin. It is man’s re¬ sponsibility to learn what God defines as wrong, and it is to his Interest to abide by that know¬ ledge. “—sin is lawlessness.” John 3 :4. When one fails to abide by the law. he is lawless or a trans¬ gressor. The dictionary defines ‘•fransgress;’’ to pass beyond, as a 1 * limit. Therefore, going beyond the law is sin. One should easily see the wr¬ ong, then in wearing names un¬ authorized by the law of Christ (New Testament). The use of mechanical music in the wor¬ ship is sin because one must go beyond the law of Christ to get it,'because it is not authorized in the New Testament. All or¬ ganizations (in religion) not . found in the law of God are sin¬ ful, for going beyond the limits of the law is sin. “—whatsoever is not of faith v U stm” Rom. 14:23. Faith is u- §pd ift this passage in contrast to doubt. A person sins when Christ, P. O. Box 15, Trenton, Georgia. Welcome to the Church of Christ at Trenton. If he does not have the assurance of faith that it is right, he is condemned in the sight of God if he does it. How can one be free of doubt that denominational organi¬ zations, names and creeds, and the use of mechanical music are right when they find NO auth¬ orization in the Word of God for any of them. Thus, one can not use these things in religion with the assurance of faith, sin¬ ce faith comes by the Word of God and His Word does not au¬ thorize them. Then to use any of them is sin, and the wages of sin is death. Rom. 6:23. This is one reason why the churches of Christ are so strict in staying with the Bible, and why we try to persuade men to do Bible things in Bible ways, and call Bible things by Bible names. Then we stay in the realm of divine assurance, of faith, and need have no doubt. “To him therefore that know- eth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” James 4:17. The religion of Christ is not negative but distinctly positive and aggressive. It’s philosophy goes far beyond that of the th¬ ree monkeys, who “see no evil, hear no evil, say no evil.” Chris¬ tianity involves doing no evil, Special Notice To FARMERS DR. E. E. He will be in Trenton Every Month on the FIRST TUESDAY but likewise involves doing good When a person neglects to do the right thing his religion is inadequate and God counts him a sinner. You may know how to obey the gospel, but your refusal to do all the bad things you know does not keep you from being a sinner before God. YOU Must DO THE RIGHT THING. You may know how to wor¬ ship God. Failure to worship is sin. You may know to do any num¬ ber of good things, like serving mankind, helping the weak, spreading the Truth, or caring for the poor. Your negligence in doing these things will be held against you in the day of judg¬ ment. “All unrighteousness is sin.” John 5:17. To be wicked, un¬ clean in life and speech, or un- scripural is sin. Lewdness, sen¬ suality, and filthiness in con¬ versation or conduct is sin. To become guilty of sin as is de¬ fined by Jehovah in any of these four definitions is to con¬ demn your own soul. By the proper process of obedience you may be forgiven. It is well to re-think your conceptions of sin, to examine your own heart, life and religion to see if you could be sinning unwittingly. f rkfa 0 1 mm Wi \ < \ *. ♦ and make a wish!
