STATE DIRECTOR
OF SAFETY PRAISES
SCHOOL PATROL
Major J. P Smith, director of
the Department of Public Safe¬
ty, praises the work of the
School Safety Patrolmen and all
school officials for their untir¬
ing efforts in this important
phase of safety work. He also
urges that violations of the
School Bus Stop Law and reck :
less driving in the vicinity of
schools must cease.
There were 2,822 school busses
engaged in transporting children
to and from school In Georgia
last year, of which 24 were in¬
volved in accidents. There were
no fatalities resulting from these
accidents, yet 24 children receiv¬
ed minor to serious injuries.
However, three fatalities wehe
incurred by school children en-
routs to and from school. One
was crossing highway to bus
stop, one was crossing highway
from school bus, and one was'
walking home from school.
Major Smith urges all motor¬
ists to strictly observe the School
Bus top Law, and to drive with
utmost caution when approach¬
ing children. Let’s get behind
a real program for safety of our
j school children.
