A: In all probability your

give sufficient information
identify you. In many
research must be made
the writer can be identified,
a reply sent out. It is
that about 20 percent of
letters received by VA do not

Q: What identification

A: The name as it was
in the service and your

number give your service

Health For All
Using Vacation Time W.sely
“Two-weeks-with-pay” is close
.o being an American tradition
Whether or not we watch the
clock during working hours, most
of us keep tabs on the calendar
.or those pleasant vacation days
which we rightly feel we have
arned.
There is a good reason why
v'e do and should get “time off”
Juring the year for a vacation
Mainiaining our mental and
physical health demands it
Most of us work hard the year
round. We may be indoors most
of the time, frequently under
pressure. In addition, there are
iOme duties and responsibilities.
•Ve need a change and a chance
o get away from routine tasks
it least once a year.
Vacation time is meant for fun,
est and relaxation. All three
.re equally important and all
ome under the heading of “en-
oyment”. We don’t all rest, or
.elax, or have fun in exactly the
ame way. Everyone has his own
preferences and ideas, so there
an be no set guide for making
he best use of vacation time.
¬ to
Some people are satisfied just
.tay at home eating, sleeping
ind having recreation when they
>lease. Others get most satis-
uction out of a stay at the
mountains or the seashore.
In short, vacation is a period
>f self-indulgence, in a wise
sense. It should leave us thr-
ughly rested, refreshed and in¬
vigorated. Instead, there are
often good grounds for the stan-
lard cartoon of the man return-
ng to the office, drawn and
tired, arm in sling, plastered
'ith poison ivy and underneath
he caption, “Had a Wonderful
Vacation”!
A person can ruin his entire
vacation by trying to “cram” too
much into the first few days
Moderation, dictated by common
sense, helps us avoid losing pre¬
vious vacation days in nursing a
painful sunburn, anointing a bad
skin rash from pqison ivy or oak,
■r suffering extreme fatigue
f rom prolonged hours of swiming
ind tennis.
Being sensible about vacation
activities can be just as much
and more fun than over-doing it
because it makes the entire
period that much more enjoy
able. Some people have the type
of skin that will never tan, yet
unwisely persist in trying to get
tan year after year with dis-
asterous results. Others forget
that tanning is a gradual process
‘hat is best enquired by ex¬
posure to the sun for a short
time each day in the late after¬
noon. Everyone can and should
cet to know his own endurance
in physical sports and stay with¬
in the limits.
Most of our unhappy incidents
during vacation time are due to
the fact that we ignore past ex¬
perience. No one expects the
vecationer to be actively con¬
scious of health and safety rules.
But it is obvious that a littl a
caution and moderation will
vive him better “returns” on
)hat precious two-week “invest¬
ment”.
