IN MEMORY
WILLIAM HERBERT CROSS
Wiliam Herbert Cross, young¬
est son of the iate Mr. and Mrs.
W. D, Cross, was born in Dade
County, Ga., July 15, 1876, and
died August 26, 1949, age 73.
He served four years as She¬
riff of Dade County in the early
20’s, thus following inthe foot¬
steps. of his father, who had al¬
so been Sheriff of Dade County.
While Sheriff he was married
to Miss Rose Stephens, an es-
»unable young lady, who made
him a true and faithful wife.
He was an exceedingly kind
and dutiful son who followed
{strictly the fifth command¬
ment. His only daughter. Miss
Willie Rose has abundantly re¬
warded him with her affection
and faithful, loving care. As a
rule, those who honor and care
for their parents are likewise
treated by their own children.
He was also a very kind and
helpful brother to his two sis¬
ters, Mrs. Cora Tittle and Mrs.
Sallie Wilson.
He loved people, to whom he
was always considerate, cour¬
teous and respectful. This
characterestic made friends of
ill who knew him.
One of the largest crowds
ever seen in the Townsend
Cemetery attended his funeral
here. The great number of
tioral tributes from friends at¬
tested their love for him.
’Tis sad to think this, special
friend
With smiles no more will
greet us.
When to his home our way
we wend
He comes not out to meet
us.
But we have hope we’ll meet
again,
O’er this we often ponder;
’Twill be a happy meeting
when
We re-unite up yonder.
